CHILDREN OF WILLIAM AND ESTHER ALTOM

THE FOLLOWING IS SOME INFORMATION THAT I HAVE COME ACROSS ON THE CHILDREN OF WILLIAM AND ESTHER. THEY HAD 5 BOYS AND 5 GIRLS THAT I CAN ACCOUNT FOR. THE INFORMATION WILL BE MORE COMPLETE ON SOME THAN OTHERS. IF YOU CAN FILL IN ANY INFORMATION ON ANY OF THEM LET ME KNOW:

NOTE: THIS LINE OF OUR ALTOM FAMILY DESCEND FROM JAMES AND PHEBE AS WELL. THEIR NAME HAS BEEN RENDERED "ALTOM" AND "ALTUM". YOU WILL FIND IT LISTED BOTH WAYS-AT TIMES ON THE SAME DOCUMENTS.

JANE ALTOM


Jane was born about 1810 in Kentucky. She married John Morris(Born 1812 in Kentucky) in 1832 in Lawrence County, Tennessee. They had the following children: Araminta (1837), Sarah(1840), William (1842), Mary P.(1843), Elizabeth J.(1845), Martha C.(1847), Eliza A.(1849), and Georgia A.(1851)

A.J.(ANDREW JACKSON)ALTOM


A.J. was born in 1818 in Kentucky. He married Dolly J. PARR, the daughter of John and Susan (JOHNSON)PARR, 11/13/ 1838 in Obion Co., Tennessee. They had the following children: Susan(1840 in TN.), John(1843 in TN.), Missouri(1846 in AR.),William L.(1848 in AR.), and Dollie Ann(1853 in AR.) Henry(1859 in AR). In 1870 the census reflects three other children: Henry (1859), Eugene(1864), and Andy(1866) plus another child named Henry CLAY(1860). Unsure at this time if these were his children from another marriage, or children of one of his brothers. AJ and Dolly moved to South Arkansas and lived in Ouachita County in the 1850's. From an obituary record, Dolly was listed as being born Nov., 1821 in Lincoln Co., Tn. and died Jan 28, 1851 in Ouachita Co., AR. Unsure of the date of death of A.J. at this time.

PARMELIA(AMELIA)ALTOM


Paramelia married Maxwell Keeling 12/9/1835 in Lawrence County, TN. Her brother was the bondsman/officiant. They had seven children who were: William Ferdinand, John Francis, George Calvin, Esther Catherine, Rhoda Jane, Parmelia Annivie, and Maxwell Kindrick Keeling.

ELIHU ALTOM


Elihu was born in 1820 in Lawrence County Tennessee. He married Julia Ann ROACH(3/26/1831) in 1849 in Lawrence County. They had the following children: Thomas S.(1854 in AR), John H.(1856 in AR.), Lemuel Legion(12/10/1858 in AR). Elihu served in the Civil War(Confederate)and died at Camp Douglas, Ill., a prisoner of war camp, in July of 1862.

ELIZABETH ALTOM


Elizabeth married W.I. Shipman 3/6/1839. No further info on her.

ESTHER ALTOM


Esther was born circa 1823. She married James Hutchinson (a brother to Alfred that married Phebe, her sister). Know children were: Mary J., Esther, Sarah E., Jesse E., John, and Parmelia F. Esther was living in Columbia County, AR. in 1860, near her brothers and her mother. Her husband was not listed in the household at the time, and presumed to have died.

WILLIAM A. ALTOM


William A. was born about 1825 in Lawrence Co. Tn. He married Mary Eliza Roach in 1846 in Lawrence Co. and his second wife Mary McGraw in 1861 in Columbia County, AR. His children from the first marriage were Mary Jane, John E., William James, and Susan M. His Children by his second wife were William T., George Washington, Tulula L., Frances M., Lemuel M., and Ann C.. William was in the Civil War, a private, in Co. E. 11th Regiment Arkansas Infantry. He was captured at Island #10 on 4/8/1862 and was sent to Camp Douglass, IL.,as a confederate prisoner of war. He died about 1874. His second wife remarried G.W. Dorman in March of 1875 in Columbia County and the underage children were raised by their mother and stepfather.

PHEBE ALTOM


Phebe was born about 1828. She married Alred Hutcheson in 1848 in Lawrence County, TN. They eventually moved to Barry County, Missouri about 1856 and later to Benton County, AR. and had the following children: Martha (1849tn), James (1851tn), David(1853tn), John (1854tn), George(1856mo), Peter(1858mo), Jessee(1860mo), Robert(1863ar), Elizabeth(1865ar), and Seburn(1869ar)

DAVID C. ALTOM


David C. married Eliza C. Cooper and had one son, Andrew J., and one daughter, Martha Jane. It is believed that he later remarried a Hanner(?) and had three more children who were Florence Ugene, Mary Etta(Simey), and Jessie S. David C. also served in the Confederacy from Arkansas and enlisted in June of 1862 for a period of 3 years.

JOHN M. ALTOM


John M was born 7/12/1833 and married Casandra Ann Wallace in October of 1858. They had the following children: William Riley, Johnny C., Mary(Molly), Sarah, Ellen, Mattie, Aldie(Alda), and Henry. John also served in the Confederacy from Arkansas and enlisted in June of 1862 for a period of 3 years. He was also a Mason. He died 2/4/1906 and is buried at Shiloh Cemetary in Buckner, AR.(Columbia County).


NOTE: JOHN M. BOUGHT LAND IN 1856 IN WHAT IS PRESENT DAY LAYFAYETTE CO., ARKANSAS. HIS BROTHER ANDREW BOUGHT LAND IN 1857 IN PRESENT DAY COLUMBIA COUNTY. TWO OF THE OTHER BROTHERS(ELIHU AND WILLIAM A.)BOUGHT LAND IN 1859 IN COLUMBIA COUNTY.
