William Spencer and Catherine(Wooley) Altom

William Spencer Altom was the oldest son of James and Rebecca Altom, and a grandson of Spencer and Christina Altom.  He was born 1836 in Henderson County, TN. He married Catherine WOOLEY(9/1837-12/12/1902), daughter of Hiram and Martha Wooley, in 1859 and they had nine children as follows:

Martha Ann (Altom)Wood (1863-9/26/1940) Note:  Tombstone reads 3/3/1869 for dob and that date has proven to be incorrect

James N.Altom (1869-?)

David Hiram Altom (8/1/1870-8/25/1949)

William and Catherine moved from Henderson County, TN. to AR. along with the O.M. Wood family in the late 1870's, and are found in Randolph County in 1880 by census reports.  It was while living in Randolph County that one of William's daughters, Nancy, married a son of O.M. Wood.  Both families soon moved on further into AR and lived in the areas of White, Lawrence, and Independance Counties. I have been unable to locate the burial site of William, but believe that he died in White County, about 1884. Catherine died in 1902  at age 57, and is buried at Union Grove Cemetary near Floral, AR.  Her tombstone inscription reads:  "May the resurrection find thee on the bosom of thy GOD"

Nancy VanHook Altom was known by family and friends as 'Babe'.  She married Gilbert Houston WOOD(7/31/1865-3/22/1936) in Randolph County, AR. on June 27, 1880(bk.S P.151).  Their Children were:

Martha Ann Altom married William Henry WOOD (11/11/1857-9/17/1942) and they had the following children:

Martha Ann(Altom) Wood is buried alongside her husband, Wm., at Union Grove Cemetary near Floral, AR.

Rebecca Hill Altom married Isaac W. WOOD 1/25/1885 in White County, AR(BkG P. 178) They had the following children:

Jesse L. Wood (11/27/1885-1/28/1985)

William O. Wood (11/9/1890-5/19/1969)

Rebecca died in 1906 and Isaac remarried Annice (Roberson) and they had one child, Gladys(Wood) Meharg.  Rebecca and her husband are both buried at Union Grove Cemetary near Floral, AR. along with Isacc's second wife, Annice.
