Since my marriage to a first generation Maltese-American 4 years ago, I have become intrigued with Maltese history and culture. My appetite for more information about Malta and her people was whetted when I began working on our family history, and using the Internet as one of my reasearch tools. I soon discovered a large Maltese community in Michigan, especially the Detroit area (which, by the way was where my husband Paul's family settled), and also in New York, Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom.

In attempting to answer the question "Why did my ancestors choose Detroit?", I found there was much written on Maltese emigration to Australia, some on emigration to Canada and the United Kingdom, but very little on emigration to the United States. So I have decided to research this subject myself to attempt to fill the void.

Since family history is more than just names and dates, I feel this information will be treasured by our Maltese decendants. It will give them a greater sense of "who and what we are".

As I gather information, I will add it to this page, and hope that all of you will contribute your family information to this project.
