Jeremy's Poems

Carved this pipe
out of an Indian heart
I pass it to you
and a lucky drag
You can kiss God.
But this old man of a riddle
Knew God
More--or less
Of his knowledge
thrown to me and others

Gave me that pipe
Carved out of stone
For his remembrance

Times went by
I see them again
Underneath the breasts of the backwoods and trails
Touching the sky
and rivers below.
Greeted with open house
and caring arms
ready to pass on what he had
Keys to his battered truck
Food
Books
and always knowledge

Crazy knowledge
That carried itself
Through tired years
of Youth and age.
Through hard hours
and soft minutes
Through hunger
and love
But always
There ready and watching
Give the time
and collect the next page.
Meet him
For short bursts
Passing through
A week's end
and summer's eve.

I was young then
and afraid to ask to much
Afraid
but knew I had other chances
other times
Fade away
This is a dream
And life adds
bend

A river rushed over his body
and put him back to sleep
His home
His blood
Everything gained and taught
Washed away
But always remembered.

Little Dakota's Departure Into the World of the Hunt

I had a wolf dog
That had a distinct odor
That seemed to attract flies of various colors.

This was to his advantage,
For he enjoyed
The sweet taste of fly.

He would wait; sit and listen.
One ear twitched
Tuning in to the nearest set of wings.

Then he would crawl,
(Taught by the highest ranking officer of his platoon) and sneak upon his innocent victim.

-Quick speed and instinct is good
For the art of catching your fly-

Suddenly a white flash and his jaw;
Bare teeth and all,
Would snag the poor bug
Just preparing to take off and go back to his wife and kids
Sitting at home
Waiting for their Papa to give them a delicious discovery.

My wolf dog
Would eat away
Pick his teeth clean and spit out the leftover leg.
(Then if that doesn't beat it all)
He would squat over his remains and Piss.
Leaving his mark
For the next intruder
To know not to venture
Into his territory.
