WILL of ANN BROUGHTON

In the Name of God Amen. I Ann Broughton of Charleston Widow, being weak & low in Body but of sound & perfect Mind & Understanding, do make ordain & constitute this my Last Will & Testament, in Manner & Form following, that is to say, First I resign my Soul into the Hands of Almighty God, trusting in his merciful Acceptance through Jesus Christ my Saviour, My Body I
desire may be decently buried at the Discretion of my Executor & Executrix hereafter named, & with Regard to what worldy Goods it has pleased God to bestow upon me, it is my Will & Desire that after all my Debts & funeral Charges be paid that they be disposed of in the following Manner. Imprimis of the Monies due me by my Son-in-Law Gracia Rivers I desire the same to be equally divided between my Son Richard, my Daughter Ann my Son Thomas, and my Grand Son Andrew Broughton Share & Share alike, but provided by Son Thomas should get a young Negro Fellow named Charles within twelve Months after my Decease, who has been absent some Years and said to be in Virginia, in that Case he is to have the said Fellow, in Lieu of his Proportion of the above Sum due by G Rivers, but if not obtained in 12 Mos. After my Decease, then he is to share in the above Money as first mentioned, And the said Negro Charles if recovered any Time after the 12 Mos. To be sold and the Monies arising from such Sale to be equally divided, Share & Share alike between my Son Richard, my Daughter Nancy, my Son Thomas & my Grand Son Andrew Broughton. Item I give to my Daughter Fabian & the Heirs of her Body for ever my Negro Girl named Fubby, with her future Increase. I give & bequeath to my Grand Daughter Elisa. Broughton & to her heirs for ever, Judy's Child, and with Regard to what Money is due me from Mr. Fabian, it is my Will & Desire that he may never be asked for it, & lately I do hereby nominate & appoint by beloved Daughter Ann & my good Friend B Villeponteur Executrix & Executor of this my last Will & Testament, hereby revoking & making null & void all former & other Wills by me at any Time heretofore made, declaring this & this only to be my last Will & Testament, which is contained on two Sides of this Sheet of Paper In Testimony &c, &c. I have hereunto set my hand & Seal this 18th December 1788.
