Will of THOMAS BROUGHTON

State of South Carolina

In the Name of God Amen I Thomas Broughton of Mulberry, in the Parish of St. John in the State aforesaid being in Sound, Mind & Memory, do make and declare this My last Will & Testament in Manner & form following, First I Will all my just debts be fully Paid & satisfied. Item, I give & Devise all that My Plantation whereon I reside known by the Name of Mulberry, to be equally divided between My two Sons, Thomas Broughton and Philip Porcher Broughton their Heirs & Afsigns for ever, The division to be made in such manner, that there shall be as near as
Pofsible an equal quantity of high land & swamp to each Part, & it is my Will that my Son Thos.
Broughton shall take that Part on which the house I now reside in stands. Item it is my Will that
my Sister Henrietta Mary Broughton shall have the Use of a Room in My house at Mulberry
as long as she remains unmarried. Item My Will is that George Jefse Peterson shall at the age of fifteen Years or when his friends May think Proper to bind him to any Mechanical trade that a Negroe boy be bought by my Executors & bound at the same time with him, which Negroe boy I
give to the said George Jefse Peterson and his Heirs for ever, Item It is my Will that my
House shall be shingled as soon as it can conveniently be done, after my decease, All the Rest residue and remainder of My Estate of What Nature of kind after I Give Devise and Bequeath to be Equally divided between and among My said Sons Thos. Broughton Philip Porcher
Broughton & My Daughter Mary Broughton, their and each of their Heirs, Executors, Administrators and Afsigns, share and share alike, Item it is my Will and I do hereby direct that my Daughter Mary Broughton shall while she remains unmarried, have a right to Plant on Shares on my said Plantation, called Mulberry, with either or both of her Brothers. Lastly, I do hereby Nominate and appoint My Friend Isaac Porcher, & my Son Thos. Broughton & Philip Porcher Broughton Executors of this My last Will and Testament.

who in his Presence at his request & in the Presence of each other have hereunto annexed Our
Names as Witnefses this Eleventh Day of March 1808.
