Great Cats From My Past
"George" was my very first cat. I picked him out from a huge cage at the shelter when he looked right into my eyes and meowed at me. He was a loving mackerel tabby, who spent his short life laying around, sleeping. He had been neutered at 7 months, and I had no idea that neutered male cats have a tendency to have bladder blockage. In fact, the neutering operation has since been changed to help prevent just this problem. Since he spent all his time sleeping, I had no idea that there was anything wrong, until his plumbing had backed up and poisoned his whole system. The vet tried valiantly to save him, but I lost him at less than two years old .... I could never bear to have another male cat.

Editor's Note: The statement about never being able to bear having
another male cat held true for 21 years... then the feral kittens came into
my life... and my house... and my heart... four males and one female. Their
story is here.
