"Hastings Marks, a citizen of Hanover County, Virginia, is proven byhis
will dated before 5 Nov 1761, to have been the father of the childrenlisted in
Wood's History, in stead of John. He was probably the son, or grandson,of John
Marks and Elizabeth Hastings. The compiler has made this deduction aftermuch
study, thought and research. Coinciding names and dates have been a
contributing factor in her conclusions, and have made her willing toaccept the
fact that Hastings Marks headed the second generation of Marks in thiscountry.
All of the children of Hastings Marks were living prior to the Revolution,
several of them serving in the American Army, that fact alone would provethat
they were not the children of a couple married about 1680.
