b. Talladega, AL, educated University of Virginia and in State Schools.
Was appointed U. S. Attorney during Cleveland's first administration.
Was then appointed U. S. Assistant District Attorney, serving through
Cleveland's first term, through President Harrison's term and Cleveland's
second term as assistant and District Attorney, and until after Mc Kinley
became President. Shortly after his twenty-first birthday he wasinitiated at
Rockford, Alabama as a Mason, received the Chapter degree there, counciland
commandery degrees in Montgomery, was Grand High Priest, Alabama GrandChapter,
and no one stood higher in Masonry than did Mr. Moore. He became a 33rddegree
Mason and was elected Sovereign grand Commander of the Ancient ScottishRite
Masons for the Southern jurisdiction of the U S, by the Supreme Council.He was
Lieut. Grand Commander at the time of his election. His home was in NewYork
City. The father of George Fleming Moore, was born in Athens, GA;received his
early education there, and later graduated in medicine from University of
Pennsylvania. When a boy he went with his father to Madison co., AL wherehe
first commenced practicing medicine with his brother-in-law, Dr. FlemingJordan.
He practiced medicine for many years in Talladega, AL
George Fleming Moore, in 1926, was Editor of Fellowship Forum,
Washington, D. C., a Masonic paper of prominence and wide circulation. A
shetch of his life appears in Vol. XI, of Who's Who, pub., 1920-1.Hemarried
Susan Spyker, and had issue."

influential citizens of Calhoun County, AR, resided in Moro Township,
Chambersville, P. O. He was a native of aL; born abt 10 Oct 1823."... The
family moved to AR when he was "thirteen years of age, where he was partly
raised and educated. He had previously attended school in Georgia andAlabama.
When he was grown he settled on a farm of 220 acres of uncultivated land,this
was in 1844, and at the present time there is about 199 acres of it under
cultivation. Mr Marks was the first Magistrate of this township, and ofCalhoun
county, and was county surveyor for twenty years. Politically heaffiliated
with the Democratic Party, and cast his first presidential vote for JamesK.
Polk. He was a Free Mason. In 1847 he married Miss Matilda J Thornton,native
of Alabama. His death occurred 22 Feb 1897."Goodspeed - Calhoun County
John H. Marks, one of the first settlers and most influential citizen ofCalhoun County, residing in Moro Township, Chambersville post-office, isa native of Alabama, born on October 10, 1823. His father, HastingsMarks, a native of Georgia, son of John H. Marks, Sr., was a soldier inthe Creek War under Gen. Floyd commander of the Georgia troops. TheMarkses were of English descent. Hastings Marks emigrated to what is nowCleveland County, Arkansas in 1836, and engaged in farming. He was one ofthe first settlers of that county, and was greatly honored and esteemedby all. He was the first treasurer of Bradley County, and held thatoffice for several years. He was married in Georgia to Miss Civility
Powels, a native of Georgia, by whom he had nine children, four of whomare still living, the subject of this sketch being the second. Mr. Marksdied in 1845 and his widow in 1877. The family moved to Arkansas when oursubject was thirteen years of age, where he was partly raised andeducated. He had previously attended school in Georgia and Alabama. Heresided with his parents until he had reached manhood and in 1847 wasmarried to Miss Matlida J. Thornton, a native of Alabama, born onDecember 19, 1829, and by her had seven sons and three daughters of whomfour sons and three daughters
survive, viz: Mary (wife of W. T. Pickett), William H., Catherine (wifeof J. H. Marks, her cousin), Albert D., Quitman D., Henry J., Robert L.(deceased) , and Virginia (at home). Mr. Marks settled on a farm of 220acres of uncultivated land in 1844, and now has about 100 acres undercultivation.
