"IN MEMORIUM: (MBF pp. 48,447) Charles E. (Ted) Hudson of San
Benito, Texas, died 13 May, 1985 at age 84. Ted, the son of James HarvieHudson
and Anibel Bracy Hudson, was born in Pine Bluff, AR on 19 Jan 1901. Hegrew up
in Pine Bluff, graduated from high school there in 1919, attendedMississippi
State and Texas A&M, where he graduated with a degree in agriculture in1924.
He moved to San Benito that same year where he began farming inassociation
with his uncle, Charles Edward Hudson of Dallas, Texas. He marriedFlorence
Sutherland of Belton, Texas on 1 Jun 1926. Ted was active in his church,the
First Presbyterian church of Harlingen, TX, the Kiwanis Club, Texas A&m
Exchange student's association, and the full Gospel Fellowship until hisdeath.
Survuvors include his wife, Florence, four children, Emma beth Chain and
Charles E Hudson, Jr. of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, James Harvie Hudson ofHouston,
Texas, and Ann Bracy Harlow of Belton, TX, as well as grandchildren and
great-grandchildren."
Phillips, Sr., a farmer who died last year. He was a graduate of the
Universityof AR at Fayetteville, where he was head drum major for theband in
his senior year, and of the Stoniar School of Banking. He had served as afirst
lieutenant in the Third Armored division in the European Theater duringWWII.
He had lived in Beaumont for the past 23 years and was Senior Chairman ofthe
Board of Texas commerce Bank at the time of his death. Phillips was a past
president of the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce, Beaumont Rotary Club, St.
Elizabeth Hospital Board of Directors, Cerebral Palsy Foundation and the
Beaumont comunity Foundation of St Marks episcopal Church. Survivorsinclude
his wife, Nell Oaks Phillips of Beaumont, two daughters, Sue Philt ofBeaumont
and Nell Allison of Grand Saline, Texas, a brother , Earl T. Phillips ofPine
Bluff, two sisters, Martha Jane Shaw of Louisville, Kentucky and BeckyGraeber
of Como, Mississippi, and five grandchildren. He was the great-graeatgrandson
of John Harvie Marks II and Mary Meriwether Barnett."
