Earth Feberation was completely fought down by Zion in the beginning of
the One Year War. Earth Feberation noticed that the main reason of their fault was due to
the appearance of the Zion's mobile suit, Zaku, in the war. Therefore, she began to
develop their own mobile suit in the Project V. With a view to have a quicker
development, Earth Federation's mobile suit was mainly based on the skeleton of Zaku.
However, one important difference between Zion's and Earth Feberation's mobile suit in the
design was the safety consideration of pilots. Perhaps, this might cause by the failure in
the beginning of the war, most of the Earth Feberation's pilots were killed. Thus, they
wanted to protect their pilot's life in the following war. As a result, Gundam was
designed to have a Core Fighter which was the main control center in the Gundam. If the
mobile was damaged, the pilot would use the core fighter to continue the combat or escape.
In the Project V, three Gundams were made, named RX-78-1, RX-78-2 and RX-78-3. The only
one joining the One Year War was the well-known one, RX-78-2 which was paint in white
colour, so it had another name called "The White Mobile Suit". Gundam's main
designer was Tem Ray who was the pilot of Gundam, Amuro Ray. Amuro paid a role of the Ace
pilot in the White Base in the war and fully showed his New Type power by using Gundam. |
