From the
Editor:

It has been brought to the attention of the The Editor that "The Weekly WOOF" gives the appearance of being biased towards dogs of the Golden Retriever persuasion. Well, it is TRUE! You see, some of our best friends are Goldens.

However, we wish to make it abundantly clear that "The Weekly WOOF" welcomes submissions from all doggies, regardless of color, size, breed, number of titles (or lack thereof). In fact, if contributions don't materialize, we may be forced to abandon publication in favor of playing out in the sunshine. Our backlog of material is dwindling rapidly. If you're enjoying the WOOF, please consider becoming a contributor. If you've got a gripe, contact the Editor!!

"FURGIVE ME, MOM?"
A True-Life Misadventure
Submitted by
NICHOLAS ROSS

Last Monday night, I was just minding my own business, lounging on the floor next to the couch. Suddenly, I heard a car door. I leaped to the couch, knocking the kitty out of the way and saw it was my mom.

Mom, mom, mom--Oh boy, oh boy, it's mom!! I love when mom gets home from work. I stand on the couch until she waves at me, then I jump down and stand directly in front of the door. When she opens the door, she has to make me move out of her way. Then, I spin in circles and grunt at her. I am so happy when mom comes home!

This particular Monday was different, because she had her hands full of bags. She didn't pet me right away. She asked me to move, but I can't move until she scratches my head and talks to me, so I continued to spin and grunt at her.

The next thing I knew, she was laying on the floor beside me, crying. I didn't know what was wrong with her. I licked her tears, but she told me to go away, so I did.

Dad put me in my crate and I took a nap. When I woke up, Mom had a funny thing on her foot. She also had two really big sticks with her. I don't like them. I tried to chew one, but got in trouble.

Mom isn't petting me so much, because her hands are full of the sticks. But when we are alone, she told me she still loves me, even if she did fall over me. I didn't mean to make mom fall, but she has to learn that I come first. I just have to have those scratches when she comes home from work.

CAR-RIDING
ETIQUETTE

by
"KORBIE"

Almost all doggies love car rides! Here are some tricks to help you get them more often.

First, practice making "sad buppie eyes" in front of the mirror. It will get you almost anything you want - but especially car rides.

When the car keys come out, make sure you look hopeful.

When you are sure you're going along, be the first one to the car, even if it means tripping someone along the way. If you barrel into the back of their knees, they will fall down, making it easier to accomplish your goal.

At this point, don't be discouraged , "Bad Dog" never applies to you.

OK, you're in! Mark your spot.... let all other doggies know it's your car by putting lots of nose prints on the window.

You'll be able to get there faster if you climb into the front seat of the car. Hoomins love to keep pushing you back into the back seat. Make them practice until they get it perfect.

If you pant loudly enough, they'll turn on the air conditioning. At this point, stick your nose right up against the vent and whimper.

If it's a long ride and you start getting bored,... bark at something.... loudly. Hoomins love the sound of our voices. This is a good time for them to learn that giving you something tasty to put in your mouth will make you stop barking.

Which leads us to... food. Fast food drive thru's have an unending supply of french fries. Be sure to eat more than your fair share. Not as good as drive-up windows, but still ok, are drive-up bank tellers. They almost always give you a treat if you look hopeful.

And finally, never let your hoomins leave you alone in the car. As soon as they walk away, hide so they can't see you from the store window. They will panic and rush back to make sure you're alright!

"Creation"

When God had made the earth and sky, the flowers and the trees, He then made all the animals the fish, the birds and bees. And when at last He’d finished not one was quite the same. He said “I’ll walk this world of mine and give each one a name”. And so He traveled far and wide and everywhere He went, a little creature followed Him until its strength was spent. When all were named upon the earth
and in the Sky and Sea, the little creature said “Dear Lord,
there’s not one left for me.” Kindly the Father said to him
“I’ve left you to the end. I’ve turned my own name back to front And called you DOG, my friend.”

Walk A Mile in My Paws
JOURNEY OF A RESCUE DOG

Somehow, when I was younger, I ended up in an animal shelter in Seattle but some rescue people found me a home with a nice lady and her husband and their two very little boys. I lived with them in Seattle from May to November of 1997, but then we moved to Indiana.

I really liked it with these people - the little kids were very nice to me and things were okay but I didn't have another doggy to play with and sometimes I got kinda bored. When this happened, I'd try to dash out the door to go find a doggy to play with and the little kids didn't understand that I might get outside and get run over by a car. Also, my family thought I was allergic to a lot of things to eat and little boys have yummy things that they drop and I would eat 'em and then get these nasty hotspots.

So, by February of 1998 the Mommy and Daddy in the house decided that it'd be better if I went to a different house to live with some other people. They they phoned a place called GRRACE to come rescue me! A nice lady came and got me and she took me home and I really liked her and her husband right away. They have a wonderful boydog named Ben to play with, and two very nice kittycats too. We made friends and now we all like each other very very much - we have lots of fun and playtimes, and get lots of cuddles.

The nice people decided that we all belong together forever so now I have a wonderful new family that just adores me and can keep me safe and happy, and a wonderful doggy brother. We share everything and are best buddies. My new Mommy and Daddy think I am wonderful. They took me to the vet to fix the bad bump on my tail and when I have another seizure I know they'll make that better for me too.

I am really a lucky pupper that so many good people cared about me along the way and that I have such a happy home to be loved in for the rest of my life because of them!
