About Bemara Dalmatians

Bemara Dalmatians is based near Cessnock in the Hunter Valley of New South Wales, Australia. It's a great place to be - we believe the clean, fresh air and peaceful atmosphere contributes to the overall health of our puppies.

The history of our association with Dallies extends back to 1988 when we became acquainted with "Fritz" whilst visiting relatives in San Rafael, California. During the several weeks of our stay we gained first-hand insight into the breed's unique personality and traits and we were highly impressed by our experience. At that time we already had 2 crossbreed dogs but resolved that when the time came, our next dog would be a Dally.

During January, 1991, we purchased Jeadal Top Class as a puppy and shortly after commenced showing. "Benson" turned out to be a real flop as a showdog even though the breeder advised that he had as good a chance as any other because he was properly registered (he was eventually neutered due to his extremely poor type and structure - we didn't even bother trying to breed a single litter from him). Such can be the results of buying from non-show breeders!

He is still a great pet though and has a top class smile - a real pleasure to have around the house!

We learned a lot about showing, and about the breed and after a lot of discussion we eventually decided to look for a good show prospect, a bitch to base our future breeding interests upon and one that would meet the opposition "head-on" in terms of quality and style in the show arena.

On the 31st of May 1992 Margaret Ferrara of Retma Dalmatians introduced us to Magic. To that point in time none of the other "Name" breeders we had approached for a top quality bitch pup offered anything suitable. Margaret's suggestion that we consider an 8 month old was followed up (even though to that point in time we had only intended purchasing a baby puppy). No mention was made of Magic being a part of the Retma line's history-making first Australian Dalmatian A.I. litter!

We were stunned by what we saw that afternoon. Even jet-black spotting of good size against a backdrop of snow white "superfine" yet dense silky coat; dark-chocolate eyes that could melt anybody's heart. Already showing signs of her now "trademark" air of arrogance, she moved with purpose, style and grace. Confidence was lacking however we felt we had the ability to instil this within her, which soon developed. Magic gained her Championship title 10 months after our taking her on.

Since that time we have bred several litters and at various times retained some for showing. Not all have been successful due to our strict desire to retain only those that exhibit the highest quality.

Unlike some breeders that continually breed litter after litter, we at Bemara breed only occasionally and with specific intent to maintian breed integrity strictly in accordance with the Breed Standard. Spotting, structure and temperament of our matings are carefully considered with particular emphasis on the continuance of the dense "superfine" coat, one of the many redeeming qualities of our foundation bitch.

Enquiries for puppies are always welcomed.

All puppies are raised in a household atmosphere and given socialisation and other skills wherever possible.Prospective enquirers should take note that the Dalmatian is not a breed for just anybody, and we ensure wherever possible that our pups are placed only in permanent loving homes.
