HTML> Dog Lover Mystery Fiction, Pekehaven

This section is about mysteries featuring DOGS!!! Whether actually helping solve the crime or just in the background, they play a major role in most of these books! These books are my favorites and the ones I seek first in a book store. I do not like the book jackets that feature a dog and then there is not one anywhere in the book!

Our Pekes think it is about time for a Pekingese in one of these books. Actually there was an adorable Peke in "Walking After Midnight" by Karen Robards. She was named Muffet and since our first Peke was named Muffet I had to immediately get this book.

Delilah Doolittle is going to Vegas. But not to gamble. She's trying her luck at an unsolved mystery. Two years ago Delilah's husband, Roger, turned up murdered during a performance of the Canine Chorus. Besides the howling hounds, the only clues she has are some stray documents Roger left behind, an ostrich egg, and an ostrich boa-wearing Pekingese. Not much. Now Delilah has to retrace her husband's steps to find a connection—before the killer bow-wows for an encore!

Ah ha! Another dog mystery with a Pekingese!

Kathryn Lively
What hopes to be the first installment of the Andy Farmer Mystery Series, Pithed is set in Jacksonville, Florida; it is a story of revenge, public school bureaucracy, and a dog named Steely Dan. Pithed is based upon an idea by Kathryn's father, a science and math teacher of 30+ years, with characters and settings inspired by Kathryn's own high school years.

GERALD HAMMOND
Mr Hammond has written several excellent books featuring
dogs. His protagonist is John Cunningham and the setting
is Scotland. The series began with DOG IN THE DARK.
Another that I particularly enjoyed was titled
WHOSE DOG ARE YOU.

Some books have a delightful dog in them but in a more
"supporting" role. Below are books with a good doggie
side-kick.
BAD LOVE by Jonathan Kellerman
One of my favorite mystery writers introduces Spike, a French
Bulldog. Spike is a wonderful little character and even "helps
out" a little in this story.
HELP THE POOR STRUGGLER by Martha Grimes
A Richard Jury mystery featuring a ten year old girl named
Lady Jessica and her dog, Henry. Jessica insists that Henry
feel whatever emotion she is feeling but mostly, Henry just
wants to sleep.

Prairie Dog
BUCKY, The Prairie Dog!
Adopted and he loves living among books.
Click on Image to read about his kin. They make great little pets
but are often viewed as pests and slaughtered just for sport.
