J.A. JANCE series with J. P. Beaumont

Author Biography: J.A. Jance is the American Mystery Award-winning author of the popular J.P. Beaumont mystery series as well as eight mysteries featuring Joanna Brady. Born in South Dakota and brought up in Bisbee, Arizona, Jance lives with her husband in Seattle, Washington.

I have now read all of this series and I really enjoyed them. J. P. progressed from an alcoholic (although he was reluctant to admit that) to a recovering alcoholic and he goes through a series of partners along the way, while solving murders, gruesome in some cases. He is a likable character in most ways. (He needs a pet) I like this series better than the Joanna Brady series, which I find a bit predictable. I did really enjoy Partners In Crime, where Joanna teams up with J.P.

ANGEL OF DARKNESS by Caleb Carr

It is June 1897. A year has passed since Dr. Laszlo Kreizler, a pioneer in forensic psychiatry, tracked down the brutal serial killer John Beecham with the help of a team of trusted companions and a revolutionary application of the principles of his discipline. Kreizler and his friends - high-living crime reporter John Schuyler Moore; indomitable, derringer-toting Sara Howard; the brilliant (and bickering) detective brothers Marcus and Lucius Isaacson; powerful and compassionate Cyrus Montrose; and Stevie Taggert, the boy Kreizler saved from a life of street crime - have returned to their former pursuits and tried to forget the horror of the Beecham case. But when the distraught wife of a Spanish diplomat begs Sara's aid, the team reunites to help find her kidnapped infant daughter. It is a case fraught with danger, since Spain and the United States are on the verge of war. Their investigation leads the team to a shocking suspect: a woman who appears to the world to be a heroic nurse and a loving mother, but who may in reality be a ruthless murderer of children.

Island Bound
by J.D.Gordon

About the Book:

This book is more of a "thriller" than mystery but my daughter told me about it. I have not read it yet but it sounds very good. Mr Gordon is a first time author.

Firefighter and paramedic Eddie Gilbert, worn from the stress of his duties, begins to feel that his life has come to a standstill. In an attempt to reclaim his youthful spirit of adventure and carefree attitude towards life, he plans to charter a boat out of the Florida Keys and sail the Caribbean until he finds himself again. Joined by his childhood friend, Frank, a Floridian policeman with a perpetual case of the munchies, Eddie stumbles upon more adventure than he planned.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Klein, the daughter of influential shipping tycoon and U.S. Congressman Bruce Klein, submits to her headstrong maid of honor’s idea to escape on a vacation before her wedding. Along with two other friends, Jennifer finds herself on an isolated island resort far away from her worries about the future – and from the protection of her father.

Unbeknownst to Jennifer, she is the target of a deadly kidnapping plot on the part of Lester and Blackwell Crow, a father-and-son team of modern-day pirates who will stop at nothing in order to punish Bruce Klein for his role in the capture of their illegal shipments. Despite their advanced weaponry and superior military training, this band of ocean outlaws just might find a worthy match in two unlikely heroes who set aside their fishing rods and beer cans long enough to lend a hand to a damsel in distress.

Jimmy (J.D.) Gordon is a native of the Midwest. He developed an appreciation for the finer things in life and growing up in Chicago. Jimmy considers "finer things" to include pan pizza, six-string music, and Cubs baseball. Living in the Windy City, Jimmy has developed the need and desire to occasionally search for warmer climates. He now lives with his wife in the Village of Glen Ellyn, a suburb west of Chicago. Jimmy has been a professional firefighter and paramedic for the past nine years.

Trying her best to cope with her terrifying memories and horrible nightmares, she decides to join a weekly group therapy session in her hometown of Shakespeare, Arkansas. At first Lily can hardly believe the number of her fellow Shakespeareans who share her life experiences." "As it turns out, the group members' feelings aren't the only things that need sorting out - they assemble for a session and find a woman dead, killed in bone-chilling fashion and deliberately left on display to send a twisted message. Who would commit such a horrendous crime, and who is the intended recipient of the message?" Before long, Lily becomes embroiled in this disturbing murder and its aftermath, one in which the brutal killer's motives are entirely unclear. The truth is, the situation has dredged up more than a few of her own terrible secrets, and she may not be able to rest until she can untangle the who and why of this terrible crime. But can she accomplish this before the killer strikes again, and before her nightmares send her over the edge?
