Block of the Month

This page will include diagrams as well as instructions for a new block every month. These blocks will be chosen by members of our quilting group. I will be posting the new block on or before the 1st of each month. If I can not get it up by the 1st I apologize in advance and I will get it up as soon as possible. If you find an error in my directions please e-mail me and I will look into it. Like I said I am very new at this.

You will need two different contrasting fabrics for this block, or light and dark scraps.

CUTTING DIRECTIONS

Background fabric; Cut 8-- 3 in. squares.

Cut 4-- 4in squares

Contrast Fabric; Cut 4--4in squares

PIECING DIRECTIONS

Cut the 4" squares in half diagonally. Sew a light triangle to a dark triangle, press the seam to the darker fabric, repeat with the rest to complete 8 dark/light half squares. Square these up to 3 in. Or use your favorite grid method to produce 8-- 3 in half squares.

Piece the block using the diagram above as a guide. Press the seams to the dark fabric whenever possible. It also helps to press the seams in alternating directions to get a better match on the seam lines. You should now have a 12 in. unfinished square. Enjoy the pattern. Let us know if you would like this to be an exchange in future months.
