Leonard fought in the Black Hawk War which occurred in 1832 on the lands of the upper Mississippi River and he was also an Indian fighter. Leonard died in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana on 28 Sep 1851; he was 66. He is buried in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana in a private Cemetery near Homer, Louisiana.
