Phillip was born in 1778 in Union District, South Carolina (Union County SCGenWeb Project Home Page).

In 1805 when Phillip Bryant was 27, he married Patsey Nance, in Union District, South Carolina.

Their son Fleming is the father of George Washington Littlefield, the legendary Texas cattleman who donated a fortune to the University of Texas. George is the subject of the book by J. Evetts Haley, "George W. Littlefield, Texan," written in 1943.

The book's historical facts about the Littlefield family are mostly wrong. For example, it indicates that Phillip was one of three brothers who immigrated to the United States in 1801, and that Phillip only had six sons.

Phillip Bryant died in Belmont, Gonzales, Texas in 1864; he was 86.
