1998 Louisiana Main Street Awards
The second annual Louisiana Main Street Awards Presentation was held at the Baton Rouge Hilton Wednesday, May 20, 1998.
Columbia received four awards presented at the ceremony, which was hosted by Louisiana Lieutenant Governor Kathleen Blanco.
The categories and specific awards include:
- Three year Manager's Service Award to Kay LaFrance, who recently returned to Columbia Main Street after holding a position in Sen. Landrieu's Washington office
- Outstanding Volunteer of the Year to Reggie Smith of Entergy
- Best Retail Promotion to "Our Main Man and Santa", in which visitors to Columbia were greeted not only by a live Santa Claus, but by a robot. This project also involved the Merchants' Committee of the Chamber of Commerce.
- Best Public Improvement Project to Caldwell Parish Industrial Development Board and Town of Columbia for the latest phase of the Ouachita Riverwalk, that opens up about 1500 feet of the riverfront in downtown Columbia to recreational and promotional use.
It was a wonderful evening meeting and exchanging ideas with other Louisiana Main Street Communities. The office of Main Street Columbia is proud of all our award recipients.
