Main Street Memory Lane
The Main Street Memory Lane Project, which includes antique-style streetlights, iron park benches and trash receptacles throughout the Columbia historic district has attracted statewide attention with its selection as winner of the Louisiana Municipal Association's coveted Community Achievement Award in its population category.
Caldwell Parish residents and friends are urged to consider this means to remember or honor loved ones, while providing a service to the community as well. More benches and trash receptacles are needed in the downtown area, and streetlights will be continued on the Riverwalk overlooking the Ouachita River. The columns on the Gateway to the Ouachita at the end of Main Street have been purchased, and will be dedicated, along with the new parish and town flags, on June 28.
Proceeds from the Memory Lane Project, which also include other fundraisers such as the Riverboat Day Street Dance, are used by Main Street Columbia for promotional expenses for Columbia and Caldwell Parish, and to provide funds for discretional grants that are awarded to businesses for facade improvements. Main Street Memory Lane is in the process of applying for tax-exempt status under the provisions of IRS 501 (c) 3.
