I
Fifteen years ago I was away from my home in Monterrey working in Mexico City. At the time my wife was expecting our fourth child. She was about seven months into her pregnancy.
One Saturday morning I went to church near my boarding house. I'd been praying for just a few minutes when I clearly sensed a voice inside me say, "Do not worry. Everything went just fine."
I couldn't figure out what it was all about. After mass, I returned to the boarding house and learned I'd missed a phone call from home. I called and my mother answered the phone. Since I was so far from home, the family had decided not to call me till everything there had calmed down.
My wife developed appendicitis the previous Friday and underwent surgery that evening. The doctors warned her that there was a possible risk to the baby. In the end, everything went just fine, exactly as the voice told me.
Today, my son is taller than I am!
II
Two years ago, my wife and I were returning to Monterrey from a brief trip to the United States. We decided to travel by a more scenic route off the main highway.
We enjoyed the drive that took us through the mountains of northern Mexico. However, the road was poorly kept. There was tall grass on both shoulders of the road, which made it difficult to see around curves.
Shortly before sundown the setting sun was in our eyes. We could not see around a curve that there was a passenger bus coming towards us and passing a pickup truck. Suddenly, a pair of large crows jumped up ahead of us began making circles and a lot of noise. At the sight of them, I reacted because I felt they were trying to get my attention.
I hit the brakes and slowed the car. At that moment, the bus came around the curve and nearly hit us. To this day I am certain that angels disguised as ravens saved our lives.
