His Time

I have heard so many times that God works in His time, not ours. That has definitely been true in my life.

About eight years ago, I was in a job that I truly hated. My company allows us to bid internally for job openings. I had put in a bid for a job and after the interview process was complete, I was told I was the most qualified for the job and was given a date to transfer.

A week before the transfer, I was called by someone in Human Resources and told I wouldn't get the job. Another secretary with more seniority was going to be surplused, so they gave her "my" job.

I was heartbroken and very angry. The best HR could do was tell me I would get to interview for the next job that came up in that job grade before it was posted site-wide.

A year later, I was given the opportunity to interview in another department. The person I was going to replace also interviewed me and told me that the man I would work for in this job was "the best boss" she ever have. I was a little taken back by her statement.

As it turns out, I did get this job and he is the "best boss." He was a definite Godsend.

There are other Godsends in my life. Two years ago, my husband was diagnosed with diabetes. As a result, he lost weight that he desperately needed to lose. The weight loss enabled him to cut his blood pressure medication to less than half of what he had been taking. And now he controls his diabetes completely with diet.

My husband was also diagnosed with testicular cancer in May of 1998. The type of chemotherapy used forced him to quit smoking for life (he had been smoking since he was 14). He only had 9 weeks of chemotherapy and has now gone one year with no sign of cancer. If he clears another year, he will be considered completely cured. If this cancer had come up 15 years ago, he would have died, as there was no treatment then.

I've always hung on to the words of the Mother Superior from The Sound of Music, "whenever God closes a door, He opens a window". Sometimes you don't see the window right away, but in every trial I have found God's blessings. It just takes me a while to see them.
