Night Angel
by: Janette Moening

Saturday Ramblins, Vol. 2, No. 4 (February 20, 1999)

Within my sleep
I hear the step
Upon the stair,
Of what is,
My private lair.
Encased in feather-down,
I shiver within
My white nightgown;
Knowing soon
The door will allow,
A single ray of light,
To enter this safe,
And darkened shroud.

Heavy are the steps
That near my door.
Each one,
A deliberation
Of footfalls,
That I've known
Before.

For it is the Night Angel,
Just checking to see,
If I am,
Where I should be ...,

... safe within this cloak
Of shadow dreams,
My conscious mind
Rests. Allowing
The greater depths,
Healing capabilities.
