MY MOMMY, Part 1
by: Sarah Richards

All of us kids loved our Mommy very much. We had alot of good reasons to love her. My Mom was a good and kind lady. She was a hard worker and tried very hard to make sure we all knew how special we were to her.

She would do things like stay up late before a holiday at school and make cookies for our classes. And not just boring cookies: homemade cookies cut out and decerated. On Christmas she made raindeers and Santas. On Valentines she made hearts. She even made suger cookies for St. Patricks Day.

It might not seem like a big deal but when you think about there being 4 of us (children), that means she decorated more than 100 cookies every holiday.

All our friends loved my Mom and hugged her when she came to the school. My Mom came to school everyday. Im not kidding! Every day! She voluntered in each of us kids classes for a while every single day.

On the rare days we were allowed to ride the bus (Mommy usually drove us) she would walk us to the corner and watch us till we got on the bus.

When we got home from school, she would meet us on the same corner and watch us get off the bus. She always had us sit on her lap and tell us about our day. She would look through our backpacks and listen to us.

One week I had a bully girl that was bothering me. I tried to make her stop. The girl wouldn't stop so my Mom went up to the school and very nicely scared the girl. She told me that no one was allowed to make her babies cry. She always called us her babies.

My Mom liked to sing. She sang to us alot. She made up songs that she sang for us. She sang when she did the dishes and when she did laundry. She had a beautiful voice.

I know I make my Mom sound perfect, and she almost was. But, dont get me wrong. If we needed " attitude adjustment" we got it. She didn't let us pull anything on her. She always expected the best behavior out of us.

She taught us about God and How he loved us, and about Jesus dying for us. She taught us how to be kind. not just to people but animals and bugs and flowers.

She taught us a story that PapJon has told us. too (papajon uses toothpicks, but its the same meaning). She said an Indian cheif had 4 kids and they always were fighting. So one day the old Indian called his kids together and gave them an arrow and told each one to break it. They each did.

Then he gave then 4 arrows ( all bundled together) and told them to break them and not one of the strong Indians could. He said to them, if you dont stand together, any enemy can beat you, but all 4 of you together like the arrows can't be broken!

One day I was mad cause Mom wouldnt let me spend the night with my friend, Ashly (actually, she was the bully girl and because my mom made her stop we became friends!). So she told me another story.

She said one day God came down from Heaven and gave a woman a precious china figurine. It was fragile and easy to break. God told the woman, "This figurine is very special to me. I love it very much and I am going to trust you with it. Take care of it for me till I come get it back." The lady had it and she took good care of it.

One day a friend of hers asked her if she could keep it, just for a day so she could look at it and play with it. Now, the lady didnt know this friend very well. She wasn't sure if she had dogs in the house that could break the figurine, or if she kept her doors locked so robbers couldn't steal the figurine. So she told her friend "no" even though it hurt her friend's feelings.

Then my Mommy stopped and asked me if the lady had done the right thing and I said, Yes!

Then my Mom said, "On July 18th, 1988, God gave me a special treasure to take care of (thats my birthday). She said she couldnt let just anyone take care of me unless she was sure they would do it the right way. After the story, I wasnt mad anymore.
