Budstikken, May 1983

"Statsraad Vogt" in 1848 Carried Many Valdreser to America

Budstikken is again indebted to Samband member Gerhard B. Naeseth for a ship's passenger list. These are passengers who were on board the "Statsraad Vogt", which sailed from Bergen under the command of captain Mentz Solberg. The ship arrived in New York July 3, 1848. The last four entries are from Bergen, all others from Valdres.

One will note that most of the passengers are family groups consisting of husband, wife and children. The wife's surname is her patronym. There may be a few entries that raise a question but perhaps readers who discover relatives listed have additional information which will help to clear up any doubts about the relationship of family groups.

All of the above from Valdres, the rest from Bergen
