The South Carolina Life Endowment

How much will it cost?
$100.00

What do I get?
A special lapel pin, a commemorative certificate, and you won't have to pay state dues.

How much are the dues now?
National dues are $20.00; Division dues are $5.00; and local dues are around $10.00 - $15.00 depending on your camp.

Is there an adjusted rate for seniors like national life membership?
No. This is an endowment, which means we have to be able to generate at least $5.00 per year in interest or the Division loses money. The best way to do that is to invest the money and spend the interest.

What if there is a dues increase?
You're in luck, because once you've paid into the Life Endowment you will never have to pay Division dues again.

I'm already a Life Member at the national level, why do I need this?
National Life Membership relieves you of national dues only, not Camp and state dues.

Where do I send the money?
To the Camp Adjutant, who will adjust his records and then promptly forward the check to the Division Adjutant.

Can I make installment payments?
Not at this time, we just don't have the capability to keep up with it.

What will be done with the money?
The contributions will be invested in an interest bearing account managed by a company called Interstate Johnson Lane.

How will the Division benefit?
1) We will have the interest off the money (which we expect will be about $8.00 per participant per year).
2) It will reduce the workload for the Adjutant.
3) This fund will continue to be a regular source of revenue for the Division long after we are gone.

How will I benefit?
1) You will no longer have to pay Division dues.
2) You will be protected from future dues increases.
3) You will be helping the Division.

Is this tax deductible?
Probably, but you should consult your accountant.

What happens if I move out of state?
As long as you are a member of a South Carolina Division Camp you will retain the privileges of Life Endowment. If you transfer to a Camp outside of South Carolina (or allow your membership to lapse) your Life Endowment will be put in suspension until your South Carolina member ship returns to good standing.

If I move, can I get a refund?
No. Life Endowments are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Who decides how the interest from this account will be spent?
The Division Executive Council.

What if a future Executive Council decides to spend it all?
The principle amount can only be spent by a vote of two-thirds of the Division convention.
