The Roundabout is now its own stand-alone site. It is now the fourth stand-alone site created and maintained by Connie Calabrese. The other three are: Totally Calabrese,(click here to visit) which together with its two sister sites, FairRaven's Circle, (click here to visit) and the NEW! Raven's Lodge, (click here to visit) now number close to 100 pages. There is so much to see and explore. We feel there is something for everyone. And if you don't find something you'd like to see here, please feel free to write us and tell us.
New Site Added! As I mentioned above, we have created a new website called, Raven's Lodge. This site is still in its infancy, but it already numbers over 20 pages and is coming on strong. The basic slant of the site are animals. From the Native American perspective. Being a lover of animals, I feel it is high time their voices are heard. I selected the Native American approach in presenting this site because of the reverence they place on the Earth and all her creatures. To visit, follow this link to the animals.
NEW!On this issue we are also offering a set of new pages, and somewhat more divergent than the other: the Witch Trial. Here is an online, true-life account of the trial of Anna Marie de Georgel, who was accused of heresy and witchcraft in the 14th century. Follow the trial with a new twist: YOU are the accused! Will your answers free you or condemn you? Are you ready to go on a journey back to Toulouse, France in the year 1335? To begin your journey, click here for The Trial. NOTE: This is for adult-viewing only as images and content are taken from the time period.
To navigate the rest of this page you may either click on any button above and you will be transported to that section, or scroll down the page and investigate for yourself. If you leave the Roundabout page click on your "back" button to return here.
We work closely with international and national law enforcement groups, such as the FBI, U.S. Customs’ Cybersmuggling Unit, the New Jersey State Police, the New York’s Attorney General’s office, Interpol, Japan’s National Police and Tokyo’s Metropolitan Police, Scotland Yard and Royal Canadian Mounted Police, among others. Our work has resulted in the successful prosecution of many Internet child molesters and the return of missing children. EDITOR'S CHOICE

CyberAngels - [Editor's note: I have included this exceptional children's site in the Fun section because my experience has shown that most children's sites are listed under this category. CyberAngel is a highly rated and respected internet site. If you want to make sure that a site is truly kid-safe, check with them first.] Cyberangels, a 501(c)(3) program, is the largest online safety, education and help group in the world. We are a cyber-neighborhood watch and operate worldwide in cyberspace through our more than 3,000 volunteers from more than fourteen countries. (Cyberangels is run entirely by volunteers.) Our special volunteers patrol the internet looking for child pornography, child molesters and cyberstalkers. We also offer a wide variety of educational and help services to the internet community at large. Other Cyberangels find and review family-friendly websites, filter software products and Internet services. Our Teenangels, CyberMoms and CyberDads volunteer to speak at local community groups and schools around the country teaching Internet safety. Our Cyber-911 helpline gives netizens access to help when they need it online. We are proud of our reputation as the one-stop-shop for all cyberspace safety, privacy and help needs.
Cyberangels was recently recognized by the Points of Light Foundation, as one of the select recipients of the 1998 President’s Service Award, which was presented at the White House in October, 1999.

If you are interested in creating your own website, but don't know where to begin, let me give you a few suggestions:
Why create a website? Well, for the most part, they are fun. People like to visit original, well designed sites. If designed well, it may make you some money.
How do you get a free website? The top 5 commercial web hosters (Angelfire, GeoCities, Tripod, Xoom, Homestead) provide all the tools necessary to build your own webpages. You do not have to be a web designer nor know any type of coding to do this. Most ISP (Internet Service Providers) make this option available to their customers. So, if you decide to begin creating your own website, my advice is to look for one that gives you at least 5mb of space, has a Basic Page Editor and Advanced Page Editor and provides FTP (File Transfer Protocol).
Don't be put off by the fancy terminology! Basically, an Editor is a feature that allows you to create a web page by simply choosing from a wide assortment of colors, tables, fonts, frames, etc. The coding and programming is done for you. This is the Basic Editor. The Advanced Editor leaves the programming up to you. Advanced Editors present you a blank page and requires extensive knowledge of HTML. HTML means Hyper Text Markup Language, and is the language of web design. It is the HTML programming that makes web pages possible. Each page, each graphic, each color, paragraphs etc are made possible by HTML. Later on, if you desire, you can explore the world of Javascript, Java, DHTML (which will probably replace Javascript), PERL, and others. But don't take too much on at once because you will overwhelm yourself.
If there is one tip that I give any would-be page creator is: "always check the source code". Every web page that you visit has what is called, a "source code". In other words, the codes used to generate and create the page you are reading right now can be viewed. Viewing a page's source code will help you in understanding HTML. Try it now! There are two ways of viewing the source code, depending on what web browser you are using: Netscape, Explorer, Linux, Unix. 98% of web browsers on the 'net are Microsoft Explorer (no, I didn't make this figure up). The rest is a combination of Netscape and others. So, let's view the source code of this page: Position your mouse over the page where there is no graphic. Click your mouse on the right-hand side. A pop-up window should appear. You will see various commands, "Save as", "Save as Background", and one will say "View Code", or "View Source" or just plain, "Source". Click on that and a separate window will open showing you the actual page as it was designed in HTML. Another method is to go to your browser's tool bar and click on "View" and click on "Source". These source pages can be saved or printed for future use. This is how I began learning HTML. It is the easiest and fastest way.
Finally, your web host should provide FTP. File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a feature (a program) that allows you to transfer files from your hard-drive to your webpage. You may not need it at the beginning, since the Basic Editor will do everything for you, but once you get started, FTP will become an invaluable tool. If you are using a web host that does not provide FTP capabilities, you will need to resort to FTP software like Ipswich...more complicated. Try to avoid it.
Where do you go to for free web space hosting? Check the freebies above. I've given you the links to Angelfire (by far the best I've found), Homestead, Tripod, GeoCities, etc. Membership is free. If you need more detail, write me and I'll let you know since I've used all the ones I've rated, plus several others as well.
What do you do with a web page once you've created it? What content should you include? That is essentially up to you. If you'd like to know what's hot (that is, which sites generate more visits), they are: World War II sites, Geneology sites, Family Tree sites, Adoptee sites, Animal/Pets sites, Children's sites, Music sites (careful with this one...if you are going to provide music files for download there is the copyright issue). These are the topics most requested. There are companies that keep track of this information so they generate advertising to these sites. Of course, you can create anything you'd like. Be original. Be creative.
So, why don't you go ahead and get your feet wet? If you need help, I'm always available. I don't know everything, but if I don't know, I do know people that just might!

We are still on the geneological trail. Ancestry.com has limited free access and a basic membership costs $49.95. The United States Social Security Office has an on-line computer which will provide information such as last known address, ss#, state where issued, date of death, etc. This is a free service.
