The cello is an instrument of the violin family. It is made of wood, and played with a bow. It's held between the knees. It has four strings, tuned in fifths. From highest to lowest, they are A, D, G, and C.
My own cello is about four years old, a German-made Eberle.
I started playing the cello in 1995, around the middle of
fifth grade. I take private lessons, and at the beginning of
sixth grade I was good enough to join the school orchestra.
Now I'm in the high school Advanced Orchestra, and I'm having a lot of fun playing with the group. Our teacher is very good, and I thinkI've improved quite a bit since the beginning of the year. Pieces I am working on currently include Telemann's Canonic Sonatas and Saint-Saens' "Allegro Appassionato".
Overture to "Egmont".
