George Bush and his springer Millie is one of the best known
dogs in America.
Ronald Reagan constant animal companion was Rex. Also on
his farm were horses,cats and squirrels that was considered part
of the family.
Lyndon Johnson had a dog named Yuki who was a stray he
found.
The Kennedys built living guarters near the West Wing for the
family's rabbits, lambs, guinea pigs, and ponies.
Herbert Hoover owned two fox terrier, a Scottish collie, and Eskimo dog and the a german shepard named King Tut .
Calvin and Grace Coolige preferred to be with one or more
of their many petts than in a room full of people. Their pets
included cats, dogs, birds, a baby bear, a wallaby, lion cubs, an
antelope, a large white goose, a donkey, a pygmy hippo, a bobcat, and their beloved raccoon Rebecca. It was not unusual to see Rebecca and her mate Horace waddling down the halls
of the White House.
Warren Harding's popular and famous dog Laddie Boy attended
many important evenst, includig all cabinet meetings. and always
had his chair prominently placed. Laddie Boy led the Humane
Society's "Be Kind to Aminals" Parade. There is a statue of Laddie Boy in the Smithsonian.
Benjamin Harrison and his family had a true menagerie, including
Old Whiskers, the goat, Dash the dog, in addition there were
two opossums and four Kentucky thoroughbreds.
George Washington was devoted to many kinds of animals and
surrounded himself with them throughout his life. He chose
colorful names for his dogs, such as Taster, Twister, Forester,
Vulcan, Sweetings, Searcher, and Madame Moose.
Mark Twain was a animal lover. His painting "The Cat in the Ruff" was one of his favorites.

And don't forget another famous Ernest Hemingway. His Key West residence to this day has over 20 cats including some who
are direct descents of Ernest Hemingway's original feline guests.
