The Midnight Bird

By John Floyd

Cry of a midnight bird, listen, listen.

Reveal yourself unto the night.
You have nothing to fear, Nothing to fight.
Sweep and fly, Spread your wings.
Talk to me with your melodic tongue.
Sing to me, Sing to me.
Announce what your heart is telling you.
Let your heart be your voice.
My heart is one with yours.

One beat, One beat.
In your flight I feel the way you feel.
The wind caresses my face as it smooths your blackened feathers.
Hear me now, Come down and share your nighttime tones.
Entranced by you, captivated, spellbinded.
Let my ears overflow with your somber midnight song.
Let my eyes see you for now they only search.
Elegant bird make your way down from you black stained perch.
My hand is waiting for your visit.

How long must I wait?
In my hand you now stand, Looking at me.
You look at me with dark and mysterious eyes.
Let me hear that somber song one last time before you fly.
Sun is rising and you take to the sky.
Farewell midnight bird, farewell and goodbye.
