I've tried to put a little smile and chuckle into my award. In no way does this detract from my appreciation or depth of feeling for what these folks are saying. Rather, it enhances it.
Whenever I look at these sites, they make my day. Sometimes they bring a tear to my eye. But always, ALWAYS they remind me what we have in our Great Country, what it has taken to achieve it, retain it and what it will take to maintain it.
Please visit all these sites. You will be richer for the experience!

I have removed all links to dead URLs. If an awardee has been removed in error please let me know.
BLUEJACKET.COM Retired Navy Captain, Chaplain Gene Oleson served 18 years in the US Coast Guard, rising from Seaman Recruit through Chief Petty Officer to Chief Warrant Officer. He then switched to the US Navy and served 20 years as a Chaplain, 7 of
which were spent ministering to the US Marine Corps. Talk about service to the sea-going forces! Now he has a wonderfully informative site dedicated to the Bluejacket. You gotta' visit here!
VP NAVY. Navy Patrol Squadrons. Anything and everything you could ever want to know about the people, the aircraft and the squadrons from the inception of the Patrol Bomber community to the present. Nevins Frankel has
authored one of the flat out best sites on the net. Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) and Sea Control from Land-Based Aircraft at it's best. I mean it! In a 5 star world, this is a 10 star site. It is that good! If you see nothing else, SEE THIS SITE!!!
As a former Air Crewman in some of the aircraft depicted here, I love this site. Despite all the swaggerring bravado of Sub-mariners, (some of it actually justified), VP Navy features the people and planes that put real fear in a Sub-mariner's heart!
The Bass Family Homepages. Two sailors got married, you know the rest. Or do you? This site is about Family. About Navy life. About what we military types are all about. A simple, but beautiful portrayal of why we endure the hardships and what makes
us proud to be Navy!
SigInt Warriors. SITE NO LONGER AVAILABLE, Feb 2008. 1Sg Sancho and MSg Debbie Manzano (both US Army retired) have put together one of the most skillful and beautifully done sites on the web. Bar none! But the real reason they're on the winner's list is because they are truly WINNER's. In every sense of the word. What is in their hearts about our country, our military, their family. I cannot put into words how impressed I am by their pages and the content. You want pride in your Armed Forces people? - Visit them!
The Association of Gunner's Mates and The Surface Navy Association. 2nd SITE NO LONGER AVAILABLE, Feb 2008. GMCS Ron Webster authors two great Navy related sites. Both have received 'The Chief Sez' award. The Gunners Mate site presents information about
the favorite 'Cannon Cockers' weapons in a unique and interesting way. The Surface Navy site is the Yokosuka Branch and offers a wealth of information on the surface ships assigned there. Both sites are worth a visit!
USS Conway (DD/DDE-507). Buzz Capizzi presents another fine Destroyer site. Some great pictures compliment the presentation of this great ship's long and proud career. Take a look!
Uncle Sugar's Yatch Club. SITE NO LONGER AVAILABLE, Feb 2008. Despite the tongue-in-cheek name, Jim Stewart, a former Navy Airdale makes a beautiful statement about his Naval Service, the camaraderie of Military life and his former ship, USS Midway (CVA-41). I like the things Jim says,
and the way he 'sez' them!
POW/MIA Heroes of War. Bill MacLaughlin's site is one of the most touching POW/MIA tributes on the web. Bill, an Air Force career man shows us what's in his heart. And it is good!
199th Light Infantry Brigade. Sue Crowder has done an absolutely fantastic job on her tribute to her husband and his unit while in Vietnam. The layout is beautiful, but more importantly, the sentiment is as well. It's also a downright informative
site. Clay also has a 199th site, as outstanding as Sue's. You're gonna' spend some time at both of them!
FCC John H. Daniels. This Navy Chief has built an outstanding site dedicated to all military people regardless of service. He gives us reason to reflect on our pride in our accomplishments and in ourselves. Thank you, Chief!
WWII + 55. Wow, as in WOW! Those were my exact words to David Lippman after reading his incredible day-by-day account of WWII. The research and effort David has put into this is worthy of being a best-selling book. Perhaps someday it will be. Read it
now on the web. Even I, somewhat of a WWII buff, learned a lot. You will, too.
Horus' Website. Here's one from The Netherlands you're gonna' like. Mario Warnaar's tribute the US Air Force, the Dutch Air Force and K-9 security. All rolled into one terrific site. That, plus it's beautifully done. Well worth a visit!
Big John Malnar. Retired Navyman Pete Spudich presents a beautiful and touching memorial to his cousin, Marine Sgt. Maj. John Malnar. Big John was killed in Vietnam and a Camp LeJeune training facility was named in his honor. Read how much the Malnar
and Spudich families have contributed to our freedom. And honor them as they deserve.
Jake's Reflections. and A Tribute to Veterans. BOTH SITES NO LONGER AVAILABLE, Feb 2008. Dan & Debbie Jacobs have created two beautiful sites. The sites are not only well done, but they show what's in the hearts of these two special people. You'll like both sites!
Kanaka Hale in Korea. Hawaiian-style site for Hawaiians adrift in Korea. Gateways to Hawaii and Korea with special emphasis on Kunsan City and the history of Kunsan Air Base (1938-Present). Retired USAF Capt. Kalani O'Sullivan has really done a j-o-b here. This is a great site. Beautiful and informative.
USS CONFLICT (MSO-426). Rick Szpyrka, ex-RM2 has done his former ship proud! This site is a tribute to all MSOs in general and CONFLICT in particular. These Wooden Ships crewed by Iron Men were unique in the modern Navy and may soon be gone forever. Check this site out. It's well worth it.
Seal Strike. SITE NO LONGER AVAILABLE, Feb 2008. Hey, these are the Navy guys that get down and dirty and do it! With their ancestry in Underwater Demolition Teams (UDT), todays SEALS cover Sea, Air and Land which is what the acronym means. What these guys mean is business! Check it out. There's even a sample a chapter from Marty Strong's latest action packed novel. About SEALs, naturally.
USS YORKTOWN CV-10. CPO Dan Bernath (former) PH2 aboard Yorktown has authored an informative site about the history of one of our most renowned aircraft carriers. The site is both serious and humorous with anecdotes that range from heroic to downright funny. I enjoyed myself here.
Brown Water Navy. DiAnne Wasson has created a fun site with lots of good 60's music. But the reason for The Chief Sez award can be be found on her Vietnam/Brown Water Navy pages. Her tribute to her husband Tom (a genuine USN hero) and the PBRs of the Mekong River Yacth Club is truly touching. Go there and remember.
Howdy Dave. Dave Naess qualifies for the Chief's award because of his Submarine and Maritime pages, including some great USCG pages. They are great. So too, is the wealth of information on these subjects and more through some very well researched links. It's like visiting an encyclopedia. Try it, you'll like it.
This award will not be given lightly. The ol' Chief must be truly 'blown away' by the site.
plus
Based on the site content, and personal contact via e-mail,
the 'ol Chief's perceception of what is within the awardee's heart, is a major factor in selection.
In accepting her award Laura gave us this rose and the one on the first 40 page. We are honored! |
