The Town of Hancock, in the county of Hancock, in the state of Maine was first settled in the early 1760's.
Some of the names of the people who first settled there were: Abbott, Ball, Bennett, Clark, Coates, Gatcomb,
Lancaster, and Moon.The General Court of Massachusetts of 1803 ordered the town surveyed and each of the
inhabitants could buy a one hundred acre lot for five dollars. The town of Hancock was than incorporated
February 21, 1828, being made up from parts of Sullivan, Trenton, and Plantation #8.
