As a child he was raised in the Miami Childrens Home in Maumee Ohio
along with his sisters.
He was born a twin of Albert who died shortly after birth.
He was a very small man, largest size he every wore was a" boys" large, but he
was a Big Man if not to anyone but me,his first born grand-child .
He was always pleasant and earned his nickname "Happy". He was extremely kind
and thoughtful. Due to his size his sister "Aunt Nellie"used to say the giant
died and the runt lived !Just kidding him of course.
Being on the water and fishing were his number 1 love in life.
He always had a boat and a cottage on either a Michigan lake or on Sandusky Bay,
Port Clinton, Ohio.
He had a boat with a large outboard motor and when he would go skipping off across
the water we would laugh because he was so small the boat would stick nearly straight
up in the air and all that could be seen from the shore was the motor. It was bigger
than he was!!!!!!! To this writer another frightening and yet funny when things turned
out alright, was his exploits to the attic of their home. One never knew if he would
come down the way he went up or take a short cut through the ceiling. I truly wonder
how many times in his life he had to patch that hole.
He retired from Champion Spark Plug where he had worked for 23 years.
He was a person who could build, make or fix anything he decided to fix from childrens
toys to building houses from the ground up doing everything himself including plumbing etc.
It is my belief that the twins where named after Mary Lavina's Father and Uncle.
He was married to Junia May HAWKINS (daughter of Harvey Albert HAWKINS and Mary Amelia JACKSON)
in Sept 1925.Junia May HAWKINS was born on Feb 24 1908 in Swanton Township,Lucas,Ohio.
She died on Jan 26 1983 in Tampa, Hillsbrough, Florida. She was buried on Jan 31 1983
in Springfield twp Cemetery,Holland,Ohio. This fine lady was my beloved Grandmother, who I
miss with each breathe I breath.Although, there are many things that I could
say about her sweetness, her gentleness and the like they are not yet
ready to come from my heart to this page,so lets just say she was
very SPECIAL!!!!!!!
