Richard and Avey did not have any children. Purity, Richard's sister, had married Avey's brother, William DeLoach. Judging by Richard's will, he must have been closer to niece, Betsy Bloodworth,the child of his wife's sister, Milly DeLoach Bloodworth, as she is the only person (other than his wife) who is mentioned in his will.

There was obvious hostility and suspicion against his own brother, William, who was executor and had inherited the family plantation, as shown in the Petition of Richard (with his sister, Purity, and in behalf of his sister, Faith's children) against his brother, William.
