His plantation on Kehukee and Cypress Swamp was not far from Arthur Smith. [husband of sister Anne] In 1777 William and Olive Barrow moved to South Carolina. For some reason they returned to Halifax County and settled on Fishing Creek mear Enfield. Here William died in 1787. In 1798 the widow Olivia and several of her children moved to Tennessee and later to the Feliciana Parish in Louisana, then under the dominion of Spain. Her descendents took up large grants of land and erected several fine plantation homes among them "Greenwood" and "Afton Villa". She died in 1803 and was buried at Highland plantation. Here is some information, as shown in the book "A Family Called Fort" (1970) by Homer T. Fort, Jr. and Drucilla Stovall Jones pages 25-26. (My parents passed down original copies of the book to me because of our 2 FORT family lines.)
7) Pheraby FORT, who married Robert HILLARD 1774 or earlier; he was the son of John HILLARD and Mary (BRIDGER?) and died in 1778 in Northampton County [NC]. She married second William BRIDGERS. She died in 1790, her husband then marrying again and having a son, Willis BRIDGERS. By her two husbands Pheraby had five known children:
a) Mary HILLARD, who died in West Feliciana Parish, La.
b) Pheraby (Ferrebee) HILLARD, born Feb. 10, 1775, Halifax County. She married William BARROW, Jr., son of William BARROW and Oliva RUFFIN, June 26, 1792, and the couple moved to St. Francisville, La., probably about 1797 or 1798 and possibly after a stopover in Tenn- essee. They were accompanied on the move by FORT and BARROW cousins who also lived in Halifax and Edgecombe Counties. Pheraby died 1827. William BARROW, born 1765, died in 1823.
c) Martha (Patsy) HILLARD, married Norfleet Harris 1790, had one child who died young, and herself died shortly thereafter.
d) William BRIDGERS, about whom nothing more is known.
e) Turner BRIDGERS, who did not marry and who died in the spring of 1804.

H. L. Hunley and R. R. Ruffin were friends and partners, in the financing and building of the submarine. Also noted on GenForum is: "The association and the marriage of Volumnia Hunley into the Barrow family, accounts for the plantation being seized by the Union Admiral Farragut during the occupation of New Orleans by Union Gen. Butler.
William Ruffin, son of Robert, born 1735, died 1781, married Sarah Hill in 1762, the daughter of Richard Hill of Sussex County, Virginia, and his wife Margery Gilliam. She married second Captain James Smith of Scotland Neck, as his fifth wife. She survived him and died in 1816. William and Sarah Ruffin had sons Robert and Thomas who died young and three daughters Sallie, Hannah and Rebecca. Sallie Ruffin married William Rhoades and left two daughters. Rebecca Ruffin married a Mr. Jordan but died without issue, leaving her property to her two sisters. Hannah Ruffin (1768-1848) married in 1786 Marmaduke Norfleet of Halifax County by whom she left descendents. He died in 1818. She married second in 1820 Captain James Gee of Virginia. He died in 1834." "Smith of Scotland Neck Planters on the Roanoke", by Charles Thweatt Smith, 1976
