Margaret: Yellow Pheby, Adam Catherine: Penny, Abraham 1811 Mar 18 Stephen W. Carney died Halifax Co. Land divided Will: land called Gracie's place and Negroes to Haley Kennedy. Wife, Ann Carney, residue of my estate. David Coffield to be guardian to Haley Wit: James Barnes Ex: David Coffield Will caveated by Elizabeth Veal by James Grimes (hus Catherine Veal); Roderick Cotten (Hus of Nancy Carney); Richard Carney by Rhoderick Cotton et al . Jury said paper writing contained the last will & testame of said Carney, but lands to not pass. [Note: at that time, lands had to stay within the family] 8 July 1814. These are children of Elizabeth and sister Nancy Cotton who was fighting her sister, Mary Carney Coffield over their brother Stephens' land.
