I Just Wanna Fly

"New Baby"

(42 days old)...

"What is that strange big thing coming to gobble me up!!!"

"Wait! What is that???"

"Awwwww Mom" - it was just you taking my picture!"

Here is a photo of the baby at 44 days old

The people who know me will all say it takes me FOREVER to name one of my baby birds. Well this time the decision was take from me. "Ria" my African Grey's cage is right beside the new baby. The baby makes a sound that sorta sounds like she is saying Boo. Ria now talks constantly to the baby calling "Hi BooBoo" "Hi BooBoo". It certainly isn't a name I would choose for such a sweet little girl cockatoo....but then who am I to argue with Ria? *LOL* So...BooBoo it is!

As it turned out, as BooBoo gets older, the only thing she says is "Hi BooBoo", guess Ria knows what she is talking about!

"RIA"

(12 weeks)...

This is my little smarty "RIA". Ria is a Congo African Grey & was hatched on 06/06/96. I've raised her since she was 8 weeks old. She is extremely intelligent and already has a very large vocabulary...{she's on my shoulder right now saying... "Whatcha doin' Mommy huh?"} Here are a few of her favorite words/sayings/noises:

"Hi Mommy", "Give me a kiss" (smooching noises), "Whatcha doin", "Oh boy!", "What did you do?", "Awwwwwwww sweet", "Hello", "Where ya goin' huh?" "Tickle tickle tickle", "Here kitty kitty kitty kitty" (meow noises), "oh oh oh ohhhhhhh", "Wally" "Sadie" (dog calling whistle), "Up up up up up", "what? huh? what? huh? what?", "Quack quack quack", "You-Hoo" "Tweet tweet tweet says birie", "Is it good huh?" , "Hi Sweetie" "Hi BooBoo" "No No No, Bad Bad Bird, No No No Bad Bad Girl" {Ria whistles the "Star Wars Theme" & "Pop-Goes-The-Wheasel"} Ria can also "putt" and "gobble" just like a turkey. She also sounds EXACTLY like our smoke detectors.

(can you tell I'm a little bit proud of her?)

Ria's favorite thing is to hang upside down from my car's shoulder strap while getting her head scratched (and yes, we do get a lot of double takes from other drivers)! She also loves to take a swim in her water bowl and then toss seeds everywhere to see how many will stick to her wet feathers.

18 months

"Rhodie"

(2.5 years)

This is my little clown "Rhodie". He was hatched on 05/15/95 and I've raised him since he was 4 weeks old. Rhodie is a Yellow Collared Mini Macaw. He spends at least 75% of his waking hours looking at the world upside down and does everything in "HYPERDRIVE". Rhodie is not big on conversation but the few words he says gets his point across. When he wants attention he says "Up Up Up" or "Hello Bud" when he wants something to eat he says "Is It Good?" and when he wants to be left alone he says "No Bite". He pretty much has all the bases covered with those few words. It is amazing to watch the postions he gets himself into while playing. Rhodie's favorite thing is to hang upside from his cage door, drop food to the floor and try to nip the dogs when they come to get the treats. (a big tease or what?)

When Rhodie was a baby and not fully feathered, I would cover him with his baby blanket and give him his stuffed animal and he would soon fall fast asleep. NO, he is NOT spoiled! (*grin*)

..."GIZMO"...

(11 years)

This is "Gizmo" my Quaker. He has such a sweet disposition and has never attempted to bite me once I hand trained him! He may come in a small package...but he has a big voice & he will sure let you know he is around! (and he lets us know quite often). Gizmo was wild caught and I've had him for over 9 years. His favorite thing is to push all his hanging toys between the wires of his cage... then once they are all out...go to the outside of his cage and push them all back in again. (cursing under his breath the entire time)

"KiKi"

(5 years)

This is "KiKi" the cockatiel. KiKi was also hand raised. He has an amazing memory. KiKi can only say about 7 different words but he can whistle over 9 COMPLETE tunes and I do mean the entire tune!!! His favorite thing to do is to fuss-out that "other" male cockatiel in his mirror!
