Cornelius M. VANPATTEN

"Born in Schenectady County, New York, March 7th, 1814. Died Jan. 15, 1840. This monument is erected to his memory by his surviving brother."

Middleton DOUGHERTY

"Sacred to the memory of Dr. Middleton Dougherty of Charlotte, N. C. who died July 16th, 1835 while on a visit to Alabama. He was skilful as a physician, exemplary as a Christian, and beloved as a man."

George RASER

"Sacred to the memory of George Raser, born in Philadelphia 7th April 1801, died at St. Stephens Alabama 8th August 1826, aged 25 years and 4 months." ("R. H. Bartle" inscribed at foot of stone.)

Martha ROBESON

"Sacred to the memory of Martha Robeson, wife of John Robeson, who departed this life December 10th 1817, aged 28 years."

Davis H. MAYHEW

"Sacred to the memory of Davis H. Mayhew (a native of Massachusetts) who departed this life on the seventh day of September 1822, in the 40th year of his age." ("Underhill & Ferril, N. Y." inscribed at foot of stone.)

NOTE: Everything was copied exactly as it was written on the headstones. There were at least 45 other graves that were obvious either by stone markers or indentions in the ground. This cemetery hasn't been used for well over 100 years.

Caroline Medora BROWN

The following memorial was found just to the north of the old cemetery. The monument is white marble, standing 12 to 14 feet tall and surrounded by a low stone wall. The coordinates are 31°33.321N and 088°02.337W. It reads, "In memory of Mrs. Caroline Medora, wife of Samuel Thompson Brown and daughter of the Hon. William Crawford, St. Stephens, Ala., born April 20, 1823, died April 29, 1841."

NOTE: The site of this memorial coordinates with the location of the residence of Judge William Crawford on the old 1841 map of the original St. Stephens.
