Angel

i see her standing alone there in the moonlight
by the window
her hair plays over her shoulders
a glowing halo of gold, crown of angels

reaching for her i grasp only the wind
as the clouds
are above the stones
so far is she beyond my reach

she is an angel, no, she puts angels to shame
tall and slender, ethereal
her fingers are long and fine
with one glance i give my heart away

people crowd around jostling pushing pulling
life is so hectic
i walk i run i hurry i lose myself
the world stops spinning when i think of her

her name is Beautiful, her voice is clear and tender
her smile is the sunrise
her laughter is the wind caressing the trees
in her eyes i see the beginning of all things

the world was young when first she came to me
and now i am old
but i am a child and think as a child
when i look at her i lose everything but i am fulfilled

every night for a thousand years i've seen her
she smiles at me
and then she disappears
she slips away on the wind, i remain below

as my life ebbs away like the receding tide
she sings to me
with the voice of the Valkyries
she pulls me from this world into the next

no longer must i watch my angel from afar
she stands before me
my worn soul she cradles in her arms
softly she sings of peace and rest and love

there are no secrets, nothing hidden in this place
all is plain at last
my radiant angel knows i dreamt of her
she smiles and all my hopes are realized

my life has passed, a shadow fleeing too soon
in an early moment
all my dreams were born
and now that it's done i understand

we're all watching someone, don't lose sight of that
friend, lover, stranger
take every chance to say i love you
before you grow weary and your voice is stilled
