Glacier Bay was quite an experience. Our first with a tidewater glacier. It was fascinating to see all the icebergs floating around. As we got closer to one of the glaciers, the captain cut the engines and we just floated about a quarter mile from the face. In the silence, we could hear the cracking, groaning and exploding of the ice as it moved imperceptibly towards the fjord. "White Thunder" is the term applied to a glacier as it calves off icebergs. Apt name indeed.
