SUNDAY FEBUARY, 2009
A BILL IN CONGRESS CALLED THE “FREEDOM OF CHOICE ACT,” OR F O C A, REPRESENTS THE MOST SERIOUS LEGISLATIVE THREAT TO UNBORN CHILDREN EVER. F O C A WOULD CREATE A “FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT” TO ABORTION THAT GOVERNMENT COULD NOT LIMIT BUT WOULD BE REQUIRED TO FUND AND SUPPORT. IT WOULD OVERTURN A BROAD RANGE OF PRO-LIFE POLICIES CURRENTLY ALLOWED UNDER THE SUPREME COURT'S ROE V. WADE ABORTION DECISION: LAWS PROTECTING PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT IN AN UNDERAGE DAUGHTER'S ABORTION DECISION, LAWS UPHOLDING CONSCIENCE RIGHTS, LIMITS ON ABORTION FUNDING, BANS ON PARTIAL-BIRTH ABORTION, AND SO ON. F O C A ITSELF MAY BECOME LAW, OR THE HARMFUL POLICIES IT REPRESENTS MAY BECOME LAW ONE STEP AT A TIME. IN EITHER CASE, WE MUST OPPOSE F O C A AND ALL THAT IT STANDS FOR! YOU WILL HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO “FIGHT FOCA” BY SENDING A POSTCARD TO ALL U.S. SENATORS AND U.S. HOUSE MEMBERS ( PROVIDED TO OUR PARISH BY THE DIOCESE OF LAFAYETTE, OFFICE OF PRO LIFE ISSUES DURING THIS MONTH) . Father Gene Tremie
00 SIGN PRO-LIFE POSTCARDS! Our parish, along with thousands of other parishes across the nation, can sign postcards urging Congress to oppose the “Freedom of Choice Act” (FOCA) and to retain existing laws against government funding and promotion of abortion. Sign a postcard to your U.S. Representative and your two U.S. Senators. LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SACRED HEART PARISH MINISTRIES Church Beautification (Grounds Maintenance) This is a relatively new ministry and it is obvious when looking at our beautiful Church grounds. This ministry is responsible for the care and improvement of the church grounds. The goal is a desirea that the grounds are appealing to those entering as well as functional and safe. All it takes is a commitment to making the House of the Lord even more beautiful and inviting than it already is and a willingness to spend a few Saturdays a year helping to make that possible. Contact Person: David Paul Fontenot (363-3937) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ CCD/Sacramental Programs Jesus was quite fond of children as evidenced by many passages in Scripture and this ministry call us to teach these same children all there is to know about our faith, prepare them to receive the sacraments, and to instill in them a love for Jesus, our community, and a willingness to go forth and spread their faith. This is not possible without the selfless acts of teachers who give of their time and talent to providing the foundation of Christianity in these children. All are invited to join in and be a part of the formation of the future Catholic Community of our parish. Contact Person: Barbara Delafosse (224-7795) or Delores Lafleur (224-2403) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Theresian World Ministry This ministry calls forth Catholic and other Christian women to greater holiness through a committed life rich in Gospel values. It centers on five dimensions: Spirituality, Education, Vocation, Community and Ministry to become women supporting women, reaching out with Gospel values. They gather in small faith communities to be nurtured and encouraged to use their gifts for the benefit of their family, their faith community, and the community where they live. This ministry is by invitation only. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ REGISTRATION FOR ALL STUDENTS ENTERING S.H.S. for the 2009-2010 school year begins Feb. 1 - 15 New students may pick up application packets at the elem. or high school offices.
