YMCA is a Christian organization which is active around whole world. It has more than 300 million of members and it is the biggest volunteer organization for children and youth.
YMCA was found in England in 1844 and it soon spread to another countries. Into Bohemia came before 1st World War but its develop is connected with first president of Czechoslovakia - T. G. Masaryk who invited YMCA to Czechoslovakia in 1920. YMCA had to start its activity two times from the beginning - in 1945 and 1990 because it was forbidden by both nazi and communist regime.
YMCA is a Christian organization but it is open for all people without regards at their confessions, age, nationality and race,language and colour. Although word Men's in its name, YMCA is opened for both men and women. In its programs YMCA tries to offer to young people reasonable activities for their leasure time in various regular activities and in various events.
YMCA organizes very many various activities - from centers for mother with small children, scout groups, Tensing and clubs for youth to adult activities. It is depending on a local association.
Czech YMCA has a rich contact with YMCA's in other countries in Europe and around the worlds.
There are another organization with similar name: YWCA - Young Women's Christians Association . I have almost no information about its activity. YMCA and YWCA are united in some countries (Norway, Denmark).
