#9375. From the printed records of Oxford I copied many items, and to clear the Osborns better, give these: "Joseph Orsbon [sic] and Esther his wife received to communion from ye pastor and Church of Christ in West Haven, bearing date October 29, 1745." "Baptized March 20, 1748, Joseph son to Joseph Orsbon [sic]." "1783 March 10, Joseph Osborn third and Sarah Smith." The only children I noticed belonging to this last couple were these: Baptized April 8, 1787, Joseph son to Joseph Osborn, Jr., and wife Sarah; born Nov. 17, 1788, Leverett to Joseph Osborn, Jr., and Sarah his wife. Died Mar. 25, 1789, Leverett infant son to Joseph Osborn, Jr., 1790; born April 5, 1790, Ransom Osborn, son of Joseph and Sarah: baptized Ransom May 30, 1790. From page 67, Part 1, children of Ransom and wife Sarah given as follows: Sarah, born Sept. 2, 1816; Ruth Ann, born July, 1818; Esther, born July 8, 1822; Joseph Miles, born Oct. 25, 1824; Rosalind Mary, born May 17, 1827; Martha Caroline, born May 31, 1829. As several of these names are not Osborn names they may help locate right Hurd family, as wife of Ransom was Sarah Hurd, daughter of Ebenezer Hurd and wife Hannah Miles, but regret that I have not been able to prove Hurd line although it is quite probable that it comes from John Hurd, of Stratford, who married Sarah, daughter of John and Mirable Thompson, Dec. 15, 1662. John [Hurd; of Stratford] died March 9, 1681-2. He had ten children, among these sons, John, Isaac, Jacob, and his daughters were Esther, Sarah, Hannah, same names we find in Osborn Family. John (2) Hurd married Abigail Wallis, June 5, 1692, resided at Stratfield Village, died March 7, 1731, and she died Aug. 28, 1728. They had sons, John, David, Jabez, Enos, Ephraim, and Ebenezer, who was born April 7, 1703, married Abigail Hubbell, Jan. 26, 1731. The list is not traced fully, but this man is about two generations too early for one I seek, but hope someone will find a later Ebenezer to marry Hannah Miles, who was born Feb. 24, 1773. An eminent genealogist said that Joseph Osborne who married Sarah Smith had first wife Rebecca. I cannot agree with this, but think that the Joseph who married Rebecca may have been from Thomas, a brother of Captain Joseph, as they are among the founders of Oxford. My reasons are these: Church records show that Joseph and wife Rebecca were admitted to church fellowship Sept. 6, 1764, when the other would be but sixteen years old. In 1776 Joseph, Jr., and Rebecca had baptized a son Isaac Wildman, and it may be that Rebecca was a Wildman. In Nov. 9, 1783, Joseph Osborne, Jun., and wife Rebecca are recommended to the church at West Britain, eight months after the other Joseph was married to Sarah Smith, so it can not be the same person. After the removal of the older Joseph then the one called "3rd" eight months earlier becomes on Oxford records "Jr." April 18, 1784, Joseph, Jr., and Sarah his wife "admitted to special ordinances." It was stated years ago that Ransom Osborne had a brother Ambrose; his birth I did not find, but his children were given as Eunice, Amanda, Noah Ambrose, Sarah Rebecca; think name of wife was not given, but have not now the book to refer to, simply copied items that I thought would be of value to us in this search. As the wife of Captain Joseph Osborne was Esther Mallory, daughter of Daniel (3) and Abigail Trowbridge, I would apprecite her line back to Thomas (1) Trowbridge. A. R.
