I am looking for information on the Rev. Andrew & Elizabeth Avant Baker, Sr. family. In particular, I am researching their children who migrated from Lee County VA through the Cumberland Gap into Knox/Harlan/Bell counties. I am descended from their son, Andrew & Jane ? Baker, Jr. Also, I am interested in their connection with Zarr Phipps and his family from VA, who also came to southeastern KY at about the same time as did the Andrew Baker, Jr. famly. Finally, I see similarities between the information in the write-up on Larkin Baker that is on the home page and my Baker family, but I can't quite put it together. Any help will be greatly appreciated, and reciprocated if possible! Thank you!

Researching: Susan Clay BOLIN

I am looking for info on the parents of Susan Clay Bolin. She was bron circa 1855-60 possibly in NC or TN. By 1880 she had married Columbus Barnet WINSTEAD and was residing in Weakley County TN. Supposedly she had a brother John, who family rumor says in the early part of the 20th century burned down the town of Martin TN. He was a merchant and as business was poor he opted to burn down his establishment. The wind, alas, was not with him and he torch the entire downtown area.

Can anyone help me locate their parents? I think John had a son named Jeter BOLIN who married Caroline CARNEY. They had a son named Lynn.

Also there is a question of whether the named BOLIN derived from BOLLING as there was an aunt Poky way back when mentioned.

Any help would be appreciated.

My great-grandfather was from a town near Cork in Ireland. He ran away at the age of 16-17 because he was mistreated by his step-mother. He joined the Navy in Newfounland and arrived at a port in Petersburg, Va. We believe his name was John David, but because he was a runaway this could be just an alias. The last name Boland was changed to Bolan. He fought on the Monitor and moved to Richmond where my grandfather and his sister were born. I believe the town or county he was from was McCormick or something that sounds like that. Any information would be appreciated.

Seeking information on ancestors and descendants of John F. BAKER d. 1767 in New Hanover Co., NC. His will mentions wife Mary, daughter who married a LIKES, Arthur BAKER, Ieuicuia (? - daughter) BAKER, Brauela BAKER, Sarah BAKER and John BAKER. John may have arrived in NC from Isle of Wight, VA area. I believe Arthur (b. abt 1755) had a wife named Margaret and that he died in 1805/1806 in New Hanover Co (No record of a will has been found). Colonial Census New Hanover Co.1786 shows Arthur's household with 1 male 21 to 60, 3 males under 21, and 1 female. 1790 Census shows 4 males under 16, 1 male over 16, and 2 females. 1800 Census shows 2 males to 10, 2 males 10-16, 1 male 45 & up, 1 female 10-16, and 1 female 45 & up. I believe two of Arthur's children were James (b. abt 1790) and George W. BAKER. James married Mary BORDEAUX, dau. of Isaac BORDEAUX. James and Mary's children were: Isaac Bordeaux, James Wesley, Azilpha Wesley, Arthur Alpheus, John Franklin, and William J! ackson BAKER - all except William born in NC. George married Nancy (last name unknown) and one son's name was Thaddeus Lafayette. James and George's families migrated from New Hanover Co., NC to Jefferson and Madison County, FL arriving in January 1829. A report of an Indian attack in 1838 leads me to believe all of George's family, except Thaddeus, were killed. In 1842 James moved his family to Hernando County, FL where they were among the first 40 settlers.

I have information on James & Mary and George & Nancy from early 1800's to present. I am willing to share especially if you can supply me with missing info on ancestors and descendants of John F. and Arthur Baker.

Researching the BOWLIN group who eventually settled in Jellico, TN, Andrew BOWLIN, father of Frances Marion (Trant) BOWLIN, father of Britton BOWLIN, father of my husband, Donald Britton BOWLIN. Anyone have any information on that line. I think the name evolved from verbal transcription, easy to see how B-O- double-L-I-N-G could be interpreted as B-O-W-L-I-N-G, then eventually a few of the lazies drop that G. This Bowlin line and a Baird family are very closely related.

I am looking for information on WILLIAM BAKER b.@1775 in Goochland Co, Va. My records show that he is the son of John Baker and Susannah PERKINS m. 5 Jan 1767 at St. James Northa, Goochland Co., Va. Does anyone know if the John Renta BAKER being discussed in this forum is the husband of Susannah PERKINS?
WILLIAM is found on the 1840 Cobb Co. GA. census with his wife (I do not know her name, but show that they were married in Guilford or Randolph Co. N.C.) and 2 sons, John and Absalom. JACKSON JOHN BAKER was born in N.C. @1815. ABSALOM BAKER was born @1811, (I think) and at the time of the 1840 Cobb County, Ga. census Absalom owned the land where 6 Flags Over Georgia is now located. I would appreciate hearing from anyone searching this particular line of Bakers.

I've almost given up. My great-grandfather was Daniel Boone BAKER. His death certificate said that he was born in Breathitt County, KY c. 1860. It also said his father was Alexander MCDANIEL!!! For the mother's name, it said ______BAKER. He married Malinda CASTEEL TRUETT DALTON in Jackson County, KY in 1898. Their son, Elbert BAKER was born in 1900. They had two other children, but they died in infancy. Daniel was supposedly married before and had a daughter named Lucy who married Lee MARCUM. They lived in IN at one time. Daniel died in 1932 and is buried in York Cemetary in Jackson County, KY. Does anyone have a clue about this man? He is very mysterious.
Thanks for any help
