Fort Collins Local Mailing List
What is it? and How does it work?
What other list etiquette should I apply?
How do I subscribe?
This is an automated list serve that electronically maintains the mailing list of subscribers. Subscribers will be able to send and receive list messages using the list address below.
female-fortcollins@yahoogroups.comMessages sent to that address will be distributed to all the subscribed members of the list. If you did it right, you should also receive a copy of your own message back.
If you would like to reply to something sent by someone else, You can hit REPLY TO on your email reader in order to reply directly to the individual author of a message, or use REPLY TO ALL in order to reply back to the entire list of subscribers.
--REPLY TO will allow you to reply to the individual who wrote the original message.Subject line:--REPLY TO ALL will allow you to reply to the entire list. **Please remove any extra addresses that your mailreader might add when using Reply-To-All. The list address "female-fortcollins@yahoogroups.com" should be the only addressee in the "To:" area of your reply. Any extra names will receive your message twice (once directly, and once from the list), so please delete them.
List Archive:
Another nice feature of the list is that you will be able to go back
and read a private archive of old messages that occurred before you joined.
Only subscribed list members have access to this. You will have to register
your email address with the web site in order to do this, but it is a free
service. You can do this at www.yahoogroups.com
Leaving the List:
You may remove yourself from the Mailing List at any time. Just send
an email to the list serve at female-fortcollins-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com,
and you will be removed immediately. It is even be possible to un-subcribe
temporarily if you are going to be away for a few weeks and then re-subscribe
when you return, if we have a lot of list traffic and you do not want your
mailbox filling up while you're away.
Problems:
Please do not send any administrative requests to the mailing list.
In case of problems, contact the list manager at female-fortcollins-owner@yahoogroups.com.
Restrictions on list e-mail:
Please observe these two restrictions: (1) Please, no soliciting for
business purposes, and (2) Please, follow cyber etiquette. If you're new
to the Net and don't know about this stuff, This Cyber-Course
for Newbies is a great place to learn! http://www.newbie.net/CyberCourse/index.html
List Sponsors:
Our email list serve sponsors frequently insert advertising at the
very bottom of messages. We receive their services in exchange for putting
up with these ads. Please note that Mothers & More does not endorse
any of the products that may be advertised. They are always at the bottom
of the messages and easy to just ignore. We are glad to have the option
of having this service free!
General-Interest vs. Private comments:
Please make sure responses that you send to the entire list are of
general interest to all members. If your comment is between you and one
other person, please take it to private email in order to cut down on irrelevant
mail being sent to the entire list. But, if your reply is intended only
one person, but contains information that might be of interest to others,
then by all means send it to the whole list! On the same note, a mailbox
full of messages that only say "me too!" is time consuming and not useful
to women who are busy chasing children all day!
When replying to the original author only, you will need to re-address the "to" area of your email message to that person specifically when replying. Her address is in the "from" area of the message. You can re-type it into your reply, or "copy and paste" it when replying to only the one person.
Jokes and humor messages:
To help busy moms streamline the reading of email, please include the
word "(joke)" or "(humor)" in parenthesis in the subject line for messages
of that nature that don't have a personal message in it. This way,
non-interested recipients can just skip over this kind of thing without
having to open it, and those that need a little humor in their lives will
know right where to look. Also, Please make sure that any sort
of humor that you forward to the list is in good taste only, and try not
to send so many that it puts our mail volume up over the approximate 3-5
total messages that are normally expected per day.
Multiple Recipients
Please do not include our mailing list address in a long list of recipients.
This might really mess some people up who want to reply to the message
thinking it is list mail only. If you send things to our list, please do
so in a separate email from other recipients. This is good policy for any
mailing list you belong to.
Virus Warnings and Chain Letters and other Internet Hoaxes
Please do not forward chain letters or "virus warnings" to the mailing
list. These types of email are almost always hoaxes. People who start these
hoaxes think it's funny to see how far they can get their message to circulate.
Offers that are too good to be true usually aren't, and you cannot get
a virus from an email message unless you execute an attached file. So simply
do not open attached files from sources that you are unsure of. Please
check www.snopes.com for the latest Internet
Virus Hoaxes, and pass it along to anyone who sends you these warnings.
Attached Files
Please try to avoid sending attached files to the list. Not all members'
email systems can accept files. This wastes a lot of download time for
folks who can't even use it. If you have files people may be interested
in, then send them directly to the interested parties. If they are just
text files, then try cutting and pasting them into a regular message as
opposed to attaching the file.
Quote previous message text:
In order to help readers follow your train of thought, it is helpful
(but not required) in a busy list like this to quote some of the text from
the previous message to which you are replying, if you are able to. However,
it is quite a waste of time to have to download and sift through messages
where the ENTIRE previous message has been quoted, when only one or two
sentences would have sufficed. Please cut mercilessly when you quote a
message, but leave just enough to give the reader a reference where you
can.
