Hughes

The Hughes' in my family came from Wales via Australia. John S. Hughes and Ann S. Williams were married in the mid 1850's and migrated to Australia during the gold rush in the late 1850's. While in Australia, they had two children. Daniel D. and Mary Ann. When they left Autralia around 1870, John and Ann migrated to the United States, settling in Shenandoah, Pa. Around 1873, John and Ann left Pennsylvania and moved to Missouri.

John S. Hughes

Born: March 20, 1833 in Wales.
Died: Sept. 9 , 1896 in Bevier, Missouri.
Married: 1850's to Ann S. Williams
Ann was born 13 June 1832 in Rhos Denbigshire, North Wales, died 13 November 1910 in Bevier, Mo.  John and Ann migrated to Autralia in the late 1850's, then to Shenandoah, Penn. in the late 1860`s. By 1873, they were living in Bevier, Missouri.  John worked in the mines in both Pa. and Mo. John drove/worked the BIG SHOVELS.

Daniel D. Hughes

Born: August 7, 1860 in Australia
Died: February 11, 1910 in Bevier, Missouri.
Married: February 9,1883 to Mary Hughes in Racine, Wisconsin.

Mary is the daughter of Hugh and Laura Jones Hughes of Wales. By the time John was born in 1884, Daniel and Mary had settled in Bevier, Mo. All six children were born in Bevier.  Daniel was a farmer.

John Hugh Hughes

Born: February 2, 1884 in Bevier, Missouri.
Died: March 19, 1956
Married: 5 August 1903 to Edith Browitt.
Edith Browitt is the daughter of Benjamin and Ann Browitt of England.  Edith was born on 7 February 1880 in Swallows Nest, Derbyshire, England.  John was a travelling saleman, selling Jewel-T products from town to town in his horse and wagon in Illinois. John also drove an airport limosine at Tulsa airport. John was commended several times for his safe driving habits.

Lee Othel Hughes

Born: July 6, 1908 in Bevier, Missouri.
Died: December 17, 1996, in Claremore, Ok. Buried in Tulsa, Ok.
Married: May 18, 1929, to Elgin Ruth Williams
Elgin is the daughter of Charles LeDoit and Grace Mildred Sherman Williams. Elgin was born on 15 August 1910 in Powellton, Ill. Lee and Elgin moved to Tulsa in 1933 due to a job transfer. Lee worked for Service Pipeline for 30 years before retiring in 1965. Lee then worked another 7 years with Crane Carrier Corp. before retiring in 1972.

Patricia Joan Hughes

Born: September 28, 1939 in Tulsa, Ok.
Married: April 2, 1958, to Charles Edward Lane in Tulsa, Ok.
Charles is the son of William Charles and Derryle Elizabeth Howerton Lane.  Charles was born on 9 March 1935 in Colcord, OK. In September, 1958, Charles enlisted in the Air Force. He spent 27 years in the service before retiring in 1982. They now live in Claremore, Ok. Both are now retired and enjoy spending time with their grandchildren.
