Descendants of Harman Davis Generation No. 1 1. HARMAN4 DAVIS (HARMON3, HARMON2, REASON1) was born 1798 in Newberry Co., SC, and died 1865 in Winston Co., AL. He married NANCY POSEY, daughter of GREEN POSEY. Children of HARMAN DAVIS and NANCY POSEY are: i. LUCINDA5 DAVIS, b. November 04, 1821, SC; d. August 30, 1893, Winston Co., AL; m. February 27, 1826, Gwinnett Co., GA; d. May 22, 1912, Nauvoo, Walker Co., AL; m. LOUISE ELIZABETH INGLE. Notes for VAN THOMAS DAVIS: One of Winston county's leading land speculators before the Civil War. After marriage to Eliza Ingle (1852), in 1860 lived on 240 acres he bought in 1858 on Brown's Creek near Ingle's Mill, the original site of Nauvoo. Sometime around the turn of the century, Van and his wife moved to the state of TX. Several Winston and Walker Counties families were migrating to TX, OK. and ARK, Van took with him two unmarried daughters and a son. Louise died and was buried in TX. Around 1912 Van who was now an old man and son, Lewis decided to return to Al. by train. At some point in MS., the train trip was disrupted by a washed out bridge. Van and Lewis decided to walk onto Al. to the home of Jane and Bennie Jackson, (Van's daughter) just north of Nauvoo, north of the spot on Hy 5, where Olivia Jordon has her Beauty Shop. Notes for WILLIAM LEA DAVIS: Through land deed, I have found Wm. in Section 35, Twsp. 12, Range 8, which is the Crossroads-Gamble area of Walker Co, AL. in the year 1883-1887. Also found a quick deed of Walker CO., AL. made to John Kilgore in 1906 for property in the same area. Sometime around the turn of the century, Wm and his family relocated on a section of land near Prospect and north of Buck Creek. At least 3 of his children reared their families on this land. These boys, Davidson, Reason and Freeman Davis still have descendents in this area today. Wm. and several members of his family were members of the Crossroads Methodist Church in the 1880s and 1890s. ( See Chism History) Mary Ann Blackwell was the mother of his 7 children.Walker County was created by the Alabama legislature on 1823 Dec. 26, and was named for U.S. Senator John Williams Walker. The county is located in the northwestern part of the state, and is bordered by Winston, Cullman, Blount, Jefferson, Tuscaloosa, Fayette, and Marion counties. Walker County is exceeded only by Jefferson County in the production of coal. The county is drained by the Black Warrior River and Mulberry and Sipsey Forks. The county seat is Jasper, named for William Jasper, a hero of the American Revolution. Other towns and communities include Carbon Hill, Corona, and Cordova. "WILLIAM LEA "LEE" DAVIS, ninth child of Harman and Nancy Davis, born 11-18-1835 Winston County, Ala. died 2-16-1919 with burial in Scott Cemetery, rural Carbon Hill, Ala. Through land deeds, Wm. L. Davis marr: Elizabeth " Lizzie"_______, born 2-16-1836, died 1914 with burial at Scott Cemetery. Elizabeth signed the deeds when they left Crossroads. Wm. L. On April 14, 1888, W. L. Davis was granted letters of guardianship for: son Freeman Davis (minor), daughter May Davis (minor). Papers also stated that he is the grandfather of Marcellus Burton, (Abt 16). 1867 Voter Registration List for Walker County, AL states that he was born in Tuscaloosa, AL.
