West Virginia

Princeton, West Virginia is located in Mercer County. Founded almost a quarter century before the Civil War and named in honor of General Hugh Mercer, a revolutionary war hero wounded mortally in battle in Princeton, NJ. Princeton, West Virginia and the surrounding towns in Mercer County have emerged into a community bustling with progress.

The original census in 1840 stated a population of 2,243. Today Mercer County boasts a population of 64,980. And the area continues to grow, attracting businesses and families alike to the natural beauty of the area.

During the Civil War, confederate troops burned the town to prevent approaching Union troops from reaching supplies stored within the city. No actual progress was made to revitalize the town until 1908 when Virginia Railroad's first passenger train arrived. Businesses and industries that supported the rail industry gave teh Princeton area the boost needed to develop into the town it has become today.
