We have searched for several years for the family of my gr-gr-grandfather, Robert H. Odom, born according to Civil War records in Wayne Co., TN., Aug.1822. Upon research, there is nothing indicating he was there. Mother's possible name...Charity. He served in the Mexican War and Civil War out of Johnson Co. AR. Married Zeralda Angeline SWIFT, 1844...had several children. He is buried in Harmony Cemetery, Harmony, AR where he died in 1881. There are also several other ODOM family members buried there. We have also been told he was part Indian, Creek according to a family source, wore black braids, and had two brothers, one of whom died in a boxing ring in Memphis, TN. Have no evidence to support that...and that his family was from the tri-state area of NC/GA/TN..I am desperate to find this information for a relative in his 90's now who wants to know where this man hailed from and his parents names.

He later moved to Chestnut Gap, then to Bradley Co. Tenn where he ied. From Frances Odom (copied) Jesse was 5ft. 9in. - fair complexion - light hair - grey eyes. He joined March 30, 1864 the Company D of the 4th Regiment of Tenn. Light Artilary and was honorably discharged on 20th day of July 1865 in Nashville, Tennessee. Company cook. My grandfather was Edward Thomas Odom (b. 1891 d. 1955 in SC) married to Jeston Young Stuckey (b. 1890 d. 1976). My great-gr ndfather was Henry Allison Odom (b. 6/15/1858 d. 1922) married to Annie E. I am searching for information on my husbands Grandfather John T(?Thomas)Odom and his GGrandfather Jesse ? Odom. We know they lived at different times in Western Arkansas, Cass County Texas, Stiegler & Tulsa Oklahoma during the last half of the 1800's an first half of the 1900's they moved between these places several times. Moses Odum came to N. C. via Virginia. The name Odum \Odom shows up as an old colonial name in Bertie,Hertford and Northhampton counties. Richmond Nolly Odom served in the Civil War in Texas. His first wife died (they might have married in Arkansas). Second wife could have been a Campbell - she died while he was at war. Just received the newsletter. You are doing a great job. Noticed that Gloria Trommler was interested in a copy of the Ancestor charts. Jimmy Ray and Kathy (bil & sil) have several copies and will make them available at the reunion for anyone wishing on . I do not know if Wallace and I will make it to the reunion or not. I am originally from Arkansas. There are a very large number of Odom's in Arkansas. My Grandfather was Arthur Hampton Odom (1900-1981). He had at least 9 brothers. Most were from Van Buren County, Arkansas. Is Odom Irish, Scotish, or English in origin?

I suspect that Elinor was the daughter of Malachi ODOM but as of yet can not give definite proof of this fact. I do know that Elinor ODOM was born January 10, 1810 in Washington County in the Mississippi Territory. She and John WEST were married on Janu ry 28, 1834 in MS probably in Wayne Co. MS. They had 5 sons: Thomas S. b: 1835 MS,William P 1836 MS,John 1840 MS, Archa 1843 MS, Anne R. 1847 MS, Vincent/Vinson 1850 MS. Elinor died in Uvalde, Uvalde County, Texas on April 1, 1884. Her son John & Vincent were early settlers and held public offices in Zavala County, Texas. Her son Thomas S. was a physician and chaplain for the Wayne Rifles Co. B 13th Mississippi Regiment along with his brothers. William & Archa both died during their service in the Civil War. Thomas continued his medical practice in Biloxi, MS after the CW. If anyone knows who ELINOR BELLE "NELLIE" ODOM parents are I would really appreciate hearing from them. Until then, good hunting to you all. Ever Searhing, Judy in Texas
