Dear Cyber-Friend,
I am a stay at home wife, who enjoys every minute of not working outside of the home. I
am a family-orientated person. I take care of two of my seven grandchildren after school
and during the summer while their mother works. I wish I had the other five near-by so I
could also see them daily.
Six children of ours have been raised in this house, one son and five daughters. I would
have loved to have had more...there was never a dull moment in our home. Doing 27 loads of
clothes each week and cooking for an army (we let our children have friends over for
supper) was the highlight of my days. Of course, I didn't know it back then, I was too busy
to notice.
My husband, Larry, and I do many things together. We love to fish at Grenada Lake--in
Mississippi (USA) where we live. Crappie is the main fish we try to catch. Occasionally, we
will come home with bass or catfish, but we really prefer the crappie. We like to fillet the
fish, keeping the fillets for ourselves and giving the rest of the fish to an older man we
know who loves to bread and eat the tails, ribcages, etc. That way, two families get to eat
from one little fish.
We have a nightly game of dominoes with various friends of ours...men against women. Of
course, the best nights are when the women win! Many of our friends are older than us, in
their 60s and 70s, but they can "hold a candle" to us when it comes to doing things! They
all either farmed as youngsters, or run farms. Many still have gardens (and I mean acres
under planting) and enjoy the work. I just enjoy eating the fruits of their labors...I tried
my hand at farming one year, and learned early on that it was much more pleasant to
grocery shop!
We love to eat, haven't really found a food-form that doesn't taste good, or can't be
made edible by coating with cornmeal and deep-frying. (Can you tell we are in the deep
South?) Thus, we are both "healthy" looking, maybe a wee-bit too healthy for our own
good, but heck, I'm saving all this excess weight for when I get old and sickly and need
something to live off of because I have no appetite! I am going to try to "learn" to cook
fat-free (sounds "yuckie", doesn't it?) so I guess I will have to post a recipe page among
these homepages, and have a recipe swap. Otherwise, if you don't send me some GOOD
tasting fat free recipes for foodstuffs, I'll just have to keep putting my fat-back in the
pintos!
Larry and I also do stained-glass. That is one craft whose art is slowly being 'lost' because
not many people do that anymore. Larry has made church windows, and repaired broken
doors and windows. I prefer the easier things; making suncatchers, small pictures, stand
alone items, jewelry boxes, and an occasional bathroom window, etc. Both of my daughters
who live in town have front doors with windows in them that we have made. I designed
(myself!) a window for mom's bathroom in Frankfort, Illinois.
When I turned 50, I decided it was time to become "senile" and do what I wanted to
do...regardless of what others think. So, I started to learn to sew and quilt. I am in the
process of making a quilt for each of our children and grandchildren, regardless if they
want them or not! I have other crafty things I need to learn to do before I die--figure if
I keep wanting to learn something new, I'll probably live a LONG time, there are many "lost
art" crafts out there to keep me busy. Besides that, I NEED to live a very long time in
order to "get even" with my children for all the tears they caused me when I was raising
them!
I hope you enjoy our homepages. We are trying to update on a regular schedule (that
means whenever we find extra time) in order to have a group of interesting pages for you.
If you have any ideas for future pages that you would like to see, or comments on the
pages we presently have, please e-mail us and tell my hubby
about it (I will NOT learn how to "compute" --click and drag is fine for me). Thank you for
spending the time reading this far...please go to some of our other pages listed below...........
